Toshima City is expanding its subsidy for air conditioning installation costs, with applications starting today, June 1 (Mon). In recent years, heat-related health issues such as heatstroke have become severe, particularly in households without air conditioning. To protect residents from disaster-level heat, the city previously provided subsidies to elderly residents aged 75 and over who faced financial difficulties. This year, the city has removed the age requirement and expanded income criteria. Eligible recipients include tax-exempt households, households subject only to per-capita residence tax, and households receiving child-rearing allowances. The subsidy covers purchase costs, installation fees, and recycling fees, up to a maximum of 100,000 yen per household for one unit. Applications are accepted online, by mail, or at city counters and elderly consultation centers.
