Hida Takayama, Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture: May 15 Marks the Opening of Mount Norikura

On Friday, May 15, the Norikura Skyline will open, marking the start of the mountain climbing season for Mount Norikura.

On the day of the opening, a bus departure ceremony will be held at the Hounoki-daira parking lot from 8:40 AM. Following this, the Mount Norikura Mountain Opening Festival will take place at Tatamidaira on Norikura from 10:30 AM.

The "Norikura Skyline," which leads to Mount Norikura, is a 14.4 km long mountain sightseeing road that allows access by bus or taxi up to Tatamidaira at an altitude of 2,702m, making it the highest altitude road in Japan. It is also a popular route for cyclists as cycling is permitted.

To protect the precious nature of Mount Norikura, private car restrictions are in place. Please use shuttle buses or taxis to access Mount Norikura.

Mount Norikura

Mount Norikura is located at the southern end of the Hida Mountains (Northern Alps). With Kengamine (3,026m) as its highest peak, it features 23 peaks, 7 lakes, and 8 plains. During its short season (May to October), visitors can enjoy diverse seasonal landscapes.

It is said that the mountain was named "Norikura" because its shape resembles a horse's saddle.
