【Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture - Hida Takayama】90th Anniversary of Takayama City's Municipal System, 80th Anniversary of Takayama Chamber of Commerce and Industry - Reiwa 8 Autumn Tour Grand Sumo Takayama Tournament to be held!

Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture, celebrates its 90th anniversary of municipal system enforcement this year, and the Takayama Chamber of Commerce and Industry celebrates its 80th anniversary of establishment. To commemorate these milestones, the Grand Sumo Takayama Tournament will be held in Takayama City this autumn.

On the day of the event, approximately 200 sumo wrestlers, including former Makuuchi division wrestlers from the September banzuke (ranking list), will gather at Hida Takayama Big Arena. After a handshake event with four sumo wrestlers from 9:00 AM when the venue opens, and after the public practice, a session for Sekitori (high-ranking wrestlers) to practice with children and a Q&A corner will begin. In the afternoon, a lottery will be held where 20 lucky visitors, selected by drawing, will win autographs from sumo wrestlers and sumo souvenirs.

Also, pay attention to 'Shokkiri,' which introduces prohibited sumo moves in a humorous way, and 'Sumo Jinku,' entertaining songs performed by wrestlers on the dohyo (sumo ring).

However, the biggest highlight of the tour is the actual bouts. Familiar sumo wrestlers from television will appear and engage in fierce battles. In particular, the matches of the Makuuchi division wrestlers, who have mastered the art of sumo, are not to be missed. The excitement will reach its peak in the final bout, an impressive spectacle not only for sumo fans but for everyone.
