Takatsuki City is launching a subsidy program for the purchase of bicycles designed for carrying two children, featuring a top-class subsidy of up to 50,000 yen, in an effort to reduce the burden on parenting households and ensure child safety by promoting bicycles that meet safety standards. This is the first initiative of its kind in the Hokusetsu region. Applications will begin on Monday, June 1, Reiwa 8.

Takatsuki City has been a leader in parenting policies, implementing initiatives ahead of the national government and other cities to create a town where families can raise children with peace of mind.

Starting in fiscal year Reiwa 8, to reduce the burden on parenting families, ensure child safety through the widespread use of bicycles that meet safety standards, and encourage social participation by making it easier to go out, the city is initiating a subsidy program for the purchase of two-child carrier bicycles for households with two or more preschool children—a first in the Hokusetsu region. Eligible bicycles must bear the "BAA (Bicycle Association Approved) Mark" and the "Two-Child Carrier Standard Conformity Mark" to promote safe bicycles. Child seats and helmets purchased simultaneously with the bicycle are also eligible for the subsidy. The city will subsidize half of the purchase cost, with a maximum of 50,000 yen for electric-assist bicycles, placing it among the top subsidy levels in Japan. The Child Rearing Support Division commented, "We want to promote an environment where people can go out with peace of mind while reducing the burden on parenting households."

### Overview of the Subsidy for Two-Child Carrier Bicycles

- **Conditions**: Residents of Takatsuki City who are raising two or more preschool children at the time of application and have purchased a two-child carrier bicycle between April 1, Reiwa 8, and February 28, Reiwa 9 (child seats and helmets are included if purchased simultaneously).
- **Subsidy Amount**: Half of the purchase cost (up to 50,000 yen). Note: The limit is 30,000 yen for bicycles without electric-assist functionality.
- **How to Apply**: Starting June 1, Reiwa 8, submit application forms and receipts to the Child Rearing Support Division. Electronic applications via smartphone or PC are available.
- **Fiscal Year Reiwa 8 Budget**: 23,440,000 yen.
