Original Koinobori Creation at Certified Children's Garden in Takatsuki City Ahead of Children's Day

On Tuesday, April 14, 2026, 28 five-year-old children from Tatsumi-kai Seigaoka Nursery School Kodomo Mirai Gakusha challenged themselves to create original koinobori to fly in the sky at the 'Koinobori Festa 1000', which will be held at the Akutagawa River in Takatsuki City from Sunday, April 26 to Tuesday, May 5 (holiday). The children completed unique works by attaching drawings of their 'favorite things' such as animals, fruits, and vehicles to the approximately 3-meter long koinobori. The 'Koinobori Festa 1000' has been held since 1992 by the Koinobori Festa 1000 Promotion Council, composed of the city, Takatsuki Junior Chamber, and local neighborhood associations, with the aim of raising awareness of river conservation and wishing for the healthy growth of children. This year marks its 34th anniversary, and it has become a well-known spring tradition in Takatsuki, with many posts on social media. Approximately 1,000 koinobori, including those that have been dormant in homes after children grew up and handmade ones by children from over 30 kindergartens and nursery schools in the city, will fly in the sky. The nursery school has been displaying handmade koinobori at the festival every year for over 20 years. On this day, the children worked on attaching colorful felt, resembling scales with drawings of their 'favorite things', to the approximately 3-meter long koinobori that their teachers had dyed blue in advance. The children, holding their freely drawn works such as animals, fruits, and vehicles, proceeded with the work with smiles. Decorated with colorful scales, a one-of-a-kind koinobori was completed. The children expressed their desire for their parents to see it and their excitement for their koinobori to fly in the sky.
