Takatsuki City will be the first in the Northern Osaka region to introduce "Sign Language Link" on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. This service is designed to improve convenience for people who use sign language for communication, allowing them to make inquiries to the city hall via video call with a sign language interpreter acting as the operator.

"Sign Language Link" is accessible from internet-connected devices such as smartphones and computers with cameras. When a user clicks the "Sign Language Link" banner on the city's official website, they are connected to a sign language interpreter via video call. The user can then communicate their inquiry in sign language, which the operator will interpret into speech and convey to the relevant city department over the phone. The city's response is then relayed back to the user in sign language by the operator, enabling real-time, two-way communication.

Previously, sign language users with hearing or speech difficulties often had to rely on email or fax for inquiries, which made rapid communication challenging. The introduction of this new service will facilitate smooth and accurate communication. Furthermore, by expanding the available options for inquiries, it creates an environment where individuals can seek assistance more readily.
