[Nara City Hall] Nara City Designates First "Urban Regeneration Promotion Corporation"

In Nara City, based on the Urban Regeneration Special Measures Act, the designation system for "Urban Regeneration Promotion Corporations" has been in operation since August 18, Reiwa 7 (2025), to support core organizations responsible for regional town development.

This time, Kansai Science City Center Co., Ltd. has been designated as the first such corporation in our city. This company has a track record of town development activities rooted in the area around Takanohara Station for many years. By officially positioning them as an "Urban Regeneration Promotion Corporation," we aim to promote sustainable, region-led town development, starting with the ongoing "Takanohara Station Square Renewal Project," and enhance the area's value.​

2. Background and Objectives of Designation

In the redevelopment of Takanohara Station Square, Nara City formed a project team involving regional residents and businesses from the planning stage to reflect their opinions. Discussions were held on the vision for Takanohara in 20 years and the content of the development.

During this process, the vision for the town in 20 years was defined as "A Takanohara-like town where those who grew up in Takanohara want to return." To achieve this, it was recognized that it is important for the region to take the lead in flexibly utilizing the station square and public spaces within the area after development, fostering diverse activities and interactions.

To continuously advance such initiatives throughout Nara City and enhance the region's appeal and area value, a mechanism is needed to support town development activities led by the region and the private sector. For this reason, Nara City established the designation system for Urban Regeneration Promotion Corporations based on the Urban Regeneration Special Measures Act as a system to promote area management.

Kansai Science City Center Co., Ltd. applied for designation as an Urban Regeneration Promotion Corporation. Following a review, the company was designated as an Urban Regeneration Promotion Corporation due to its long-standing track record of community-rooted town development activities in the Takanohara Station area, among other factors.
