Based on the Act on Special Measures concerning Urban Reconstruction, Nara City has been operating a designation system for 'Urban Regeneration Promotion Corporations' since August 18, 2025, to support core organizations responsible for local community development. We have now designated 'Kansai Research Institute for Culture and Science City Center Co., Ltd.' as the first such entity in our city. This company has a long track record of community development activities rooted in the area around Takanohara Station. By officially positioning them as an 'Urban Regeneration Promotion Corporation', we aim to promote sustainable, community-led urban development starting with the ongoing 'Takanohara Station Plaza Renewal Project', and to improve the value of the area.
1. Overview of the Designated Urban Regeneration Promotion Corporation ### Corporation Name Kansai Research Institute for Culture and Science City Center Co., Ltd. (Location: 1-2 Ukyo, Nara City) ### Date of Designation March 30, 2026
2. Background and Purpose of Designation In redeveloping the Takanohara Station Plaza, to reflect the opinions of local residents and businesses who actually use it, our city formed a project team with their participation from the study stage, and has repeatedly discussed the vision for Takanohara town 20 years in the future and the details of the redevelopment. In this process, we defined the vision for the town 20 years from now as 'A Takanohara-like town where people raised in Takanohara want to return.' To realize this, a shared recognition emerged that it is important for the community to proactively and flexibly utilize the redeveloped station plaza and public spaces within the area to create diverse activities and interactions. To continuously promote such initiatives throughout Nara City and connect them to improving local appeal and area value, a mechanism to support community and private sector-led urban development activities is necessary. Therefore, as a system to promote area management, our city also established a designation system for Urban Regeneration Promotion Corporations based on the Act on Special Measures concerning Urban Reconstruction. Recently, Kansai Research Institute for Culture and Science City Center Co., Ltd. applied for designation as an Urban Regeneration Promotion Corporation. As a result of the review, the company was designated because it has a long track record of community-based urban development activities in the Takanohara Station area.
