General Mobilization Rally for the Hokuriku Shinkansen Kameoka Route Held on June 29, 2026

Kameoka City (Mayor: Takahiro Katsuragawa), together with Nantan City and Kyotanba Town through the Hokuriku Shinkansen Kuchi-Tanba Construction Promotion Council, held the 'General Mobilization Rally for the Hokuriku Shinkansen Kameoka Route' on June 29, 2026. Approximately 880 participants attended, and a resolution was unanimously adopted. We will continue to strongly advocate to the national government and relevant agencies, uniting the passionate aspirations of our citizens for the realization of the Hokuriku Shinkansen.

【Background of the Event】

The decision on the extension route of the Hokuriku Shinkansen to Shin-Osaka has been prolonged, raising growing concerns that the Kansai region may be left behind, leading to a decline in regional vitality. As a crucial national project to strengthen regional connectivity and promote regional revitalization, the early opening of the entire Hokuriku Shinkansen line is indispensable.

【Event Overview and Resolution】

Held at Galleria Kameoka, this rally aimed to build momentum for attracting the Hokuriku Shinkansen to the Kyoto-Tanba region and establishing a new Shinkansen station. The following four demands were strongly urged upon the government and relevant authorities through an adopted resolution:

Prioritize the early opening of the entire line, striving to shorten construction timelines and reduce financial burdens.

Thoroughly evaluate and consider route plans passing through the Kyoto-Tanba region.

Establish a new station in the Kyoto-Tanba region to alleviate over-concentration on Kyoto City and revitalize the local economy.

Ensure thorough consultation with local residents during route selection and construction, and strictly minimize environmental impact and disruption to daily life.

The Kameoka route is the optimal solution, enabling the fastest and most cost-effective realization of access to Shin-Osaka. To disperse overtourism from Kyoto Station, halt population decline, and foster new urban development, we ask for your support.

If a new Shinkansen station is built in Kameoka, travel time to Shin-Osaka will be just 15 minutes—this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. For the children of the next 50 to 100 years, let us unite as three municipalities and absolutely achieve this goal.

Genichi Hatanaka, Mayor of Kyotanba Town

For our region to remain sustainable, integration into a broader economic zone is essential. The Shinkansen station will serve as the gateway to the Kyoto-Tanba region. Let us unite and demand a return to the original plan—the Kameoka route.
