Furano City, Hokkaido (Location: 1-1 Yayoi-cho, Furano City; Mayor: Takeshi Kita) started accepting applications for the FY2026 Workation Subsidy System 'Workation Deployment Cost Subsidy' on April 1. When company employees or freelancers from outside the city conduct a workation within the city, a portion of travel and other expenses will be subsidized. The implementation period is until the end of March 2027, but it will end once the budget is reached.

■ Background
Aiming to create an affiliated population, Furano City has been promoting the acceptance of workations for company employees and freelancers from outside the city. From FY2021, the city started subsidizing accommodation and rental car fees. In FY2024, the subsidy content was significantly revised to create opportunities to increase local consumption effects and 'room for involvement' with local residents and businesses. For FY2026, the system has been expanded to lead to further secondary effects, promoting initiatives that contribute to 'creating a second hometown', 'local business', and 'migration/dual-region residence' from the affiliated population.

When a family of the child-rearing generation considering future rural migration or dual-base residence stays in a rental house or accommodation facility for a workation for 2 weeks or more, a portion of the rent (accommodation fee), rental car fee, childcare fee (for 1 person), and experiential education fee (for 1 person) will be subsidized.
