Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium to Hold 'Coral Breeding Exhibition 2026' Featuring World-Unique Displays!

Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium (Location: Motobu Town, Kunigami District, Okinawa Prefecture; Director: Keiichi Sato) will hold the 'Coral Breeding Exhibition 2026' in line with the coral spawning season.

Related events include a joint project with Ryukyu University for a night observation tour of spawning in the back tank, and a planned live stream of coral mass spawning on social media.

Through seeing, knowing, and experiencing, we will easily introduce the mysterious reproductive ecology of corals.

Content Centering on coral spawning displays using the world's only environmental control for full spawning control technology, this exhibition will introduce the mechanisms of coral reproduction through limited-time displays of coral larvae and juveniles, explanatory panels, and scent experiences.

Content As a joint project with Ryukyu University, we will conduct a coral spawning observation tour.

In the aquarium's backstage tank, inaccessible to the general public, we will deliver stories only heard here from researchers and keepers.

Depending on the timing, you may even witness the mysterious moment of mass coral spawning.

◎ The Cycle of Life in the Night Tank: 'Mass Spawning Live Stream'

Date & Time One or several days between mid-May and early June / around 22:00

Content In conjunction with the mass coral spawning observed in the "Coral Sea" tank, one of the largest in aquariums in Japan, we will conduct a live stream on our official Instagram.

Our commentators will engagingly explain the mysterious ecology of the Acropora species, which spawns once a year.
