What are the Asian Games and Asian Para Games?
The Asian Games were first held in New Delhi in 1951, shortly after World War II, with the participation of 11 countries including Japan, born from a desire to restore the bonds between Asian nations torn apart by war through sports and to contribute to lasting peace. Since then, they have been held, in principle, every four years.
The Asian Para Games are a comprehensive multi-sport event for para-athletes in the Asian region, succeeding the Far East and South Pacific Games for the Disabled (FESPIC Games), whose first event was held in Oita in 1975 at Japan's initiative. These games are also held, in principle, every four years.
The Asian Games, returning to Japan for the first time in 32 years, and the Asian Para Games, being held in Japan for the first time ever, represent Asia's largest festival of sport and offer a perfect opportunity to witness top athletes in action firsthand.
