Kyoto's 'Fragrance Consulting Room' CABINET to Host Limited-Time Workshop Exploring Sensibility through Fragrance Structure in June

The Kyoto-based fragrance brand 'CABINET' will host a limited-time workshop on June 5 and 14, 2026, aimed at helping participants explore their own sensibilities by learning about the 'structure of scent.' Under the guidance of professional perfumers, participants will experience 30 different fragrance materials and blend their own 8ml eau de parfum using up to 64 drops. The small-group program focuses on understanding scent as a structure rather than just a sensation, using dialogue to uncover the contours of what constitutes a comfortable fragrance for the individual.

CABINET, a 'consulting room-style' fragrance brand that opened in Teramachi-dori, Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto, in April 2026, where customers create fragrances through dialogue with professional perfumers, will hold an 'Exploration of Scent Structure' workshop on June 5 (Friday) and June 14 (Sunday), 2026.

This small-group workshop aims to help participants discover the contours of scents they find comfortable, rather than simply selecting perfumes based on 'likes' or 'dislikes,' by experiencing how fragrances are constructed and how their impressions change over time.

Faced with fragrance materials lined up in the shop, participants will learn about the origins and balance of scent under the guidance of a perfumer, and then create their own 8ml eau de parfum. This is a special opportunity to feel more familiar with the dialogue-based scent experience that CABINET treasures—learning about your own sensibilities before 'choosing' a scent.

■ Background: A Time to Face Your Own Sensibility Through Scent

Because perfume is invisible, it can be difficult to choose.

While influenced by bottle impressions, brand images, surrounding reviews, and trends, the ultimate priority is the sense of whether or not it is 'comfortable for you.'

However, there are few opportunities to put that feeling into words.

Even if you think, 'I like sweet scents' or 'I like refreshing scents,' various elements are layered underneath, such as the softness of flowers, the calmness of trees, the brightness of citrus, and the lingering finish of musk.

CABINET values not simply passing fragrance off as a product, but gradually clarifying the contours of a person's memories, emotions, and preferences through dialogue with the customer.

In this workshop, you will learn about the structure of scent, touch the fragrance materials, and experience the process of turning your sensibilities into words. We offer a time to re-examine scent using your own criteria, rather than selecting based solely on brand names or trends.

■ Workshop Content: Decoding Scent Structure and Observing Your Preferences

In this workshop, led by a perfumer, you will learn the basic concepts of perfume composition, touch the actual fragrance materials, and observe changes in your preferences and impressions.

1. Learn the Structure of Scent

First, you will learn the elements that make up perfume.

A perfumer will clearly explain the mechanisms of scent that change over time, such as top notes, middle notes, and last notes, as well as the depth of impression created by layering multiple materials.

By carefully unraveling what you usually perceive instinctively into a structure, you will find clues to think about 'why you are drawn to this scent' and 'what kind of scent fits you.'

2. Observe Your Sensibility from 30 Types of Fragrance Materials

In the workshop, we will prepare a total of 30 types of fragrance materials: 15 base materials and 15 layered materials from various families.

As participants try each scent, they will deepen their way of engaging with the fragrance, using impressions they feel—such as 'glamorous,' 'calming,' 'clean,' or 'deep'—as clues.

The fragrance materials will be lined up on the counter with dedicated glass funnels. It is a time to quietly listen to your own senses while enjoying the world of scent visually.

3. Create an 8ml Eau de Parfum with 64 Drops of Blending

You will choose one scent to serve as the base and proceed with the blending. The atomizer holds up to 64 drops. After establishing the skeleton scent, you will add the remaining materials drop by drop while checking changes in impression.

The perfumer will carefully accept your sensibilities from the scents and words you choose, supporting you in refining the direction of the fragrance. What you complete is an 8ml atomizer with an authentic eau de parfum concentration.

4. Add Depth with Secret Ingredients

At the end of the experience, we will specially add fragrance materials used in our regular BESPOKE experience. The ability to experience how the impression changes with that final drop is a unique charm of this workshop.

5. Bring Home the Scent with a Recipe Card

The completed perfume will be handed to you in an 8ml atomizer. It will be accompanied by a handwritten recipe card by the perfumer and presented in an original cotton bag sprayed with the finished scent. By recording not only the scent itself but also the choices from which it was born, you can preserve the memory of the experience more deeply.

Finally, we will take a commemorative photo in front of the 'perfume organ' where 130 types of fragrance materials are lined up.
