The National Museum of Art, Osaka, is pleased to announce the special exhibition 'Aki Sasamoto: Laboratory,' running from July 19 (Sun) to November 3 (Tue/Holiday), 2026. This exhibition is a reconfiguration of the 2025 exhibition held at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, incorporating pieces from our own collection.

Aki Sasamoto has consistently created works that oscillate between sculptural thinking and bodily expression. She constructs installations that function like circuits for thoughts and emotions, utilizing diverse elements such as thread, tubes, everyday objects, sound, and language. By entering these spaces herself and performing with narration and physical movement, her works unfold as 'events' that change over time, rather than fixed objects.

As the title 'Laboratory' suggests, Sasamoto's practice is characterized by sharing the process of trial and error with the audience rather than presenting completed results. By modifying the venue layout and adding works from our collection, we are attempting a fresh display tailored to the spatial characteristics of the National Museum of Art, Osaka.

Furthermore, the performances held during the exhibition will feature new content. Consequently, visitors will encounter a different experience with each visit.
