The stage of the journey is Nihonbashi, Tokyo. In this place, which has flourished since the Edo period as the starting point of the five major roads, we will enjoy a dish that returns to its origins.
First, we stopped by "Eitaro Sohonpo," a Japanese confectionery shop that has been in business since the Edo period. Their signature products are kintsuba and candies, whose manufacturing methods have remained almost unchanged since the Edo period. Among them, Umeboshi Ame (plum candy) is characterized by its gentle sweetness, and although it has "umeboshi" in its name, it doesn't taste like plum. Tsukaji Muga (Drunk Dragon) is also curious about the origin of the name "Umeboshi." It is said that the name came from an Edoite's play on words... but what is the truth?
The soba restaurant we were looking for is "Sobayoshi Nihonbashi Honten," a popular restaurant with endless queues during lunchtime. In fact, this is the first restaurant where Tsukaji ate soba in the 2022 broadcast of "Tabi Suru Suiyobi Drunk Tsukaji no Furatto Tachigui Soba" (Traveling Wednesday: Drunk Tsukaji's Casual Standing Soba), before the program became a regular series. This time, as it marks the 100th episode, it was a return to roots visit. As it is directly managed by a long-established bonito flake wholesaler, the soup is full of bonito umami. The thin noodles are made on the 4th floor of the same building and served freshly boiled after an order is placed. The curry is prepared with dashi and soup, and has a gentle flavor packed with bonito umami. Tsukaji topped his vegetable tempura soba with Sanriku wakame seaweed and also enjoyed a curry rice bowl. Memories were shared with the owner, whom he met again after four years.

Next, we will deliver an encore broadcast of a famous restaurant found in the middle of an industrial area along the JR Tsurumi Line.
