Blue Bottle Coffee Japan LLC (Headquarters: Koto-ku, Tokyo) will open "Blue Bottle Coffee Hakata Cafe" on July 21, 2026 (Tue) in the "Nishinihon City Building" opening in front of Hakata Station. The Hakata Cafe will be the second cafe in the Kyushu area, following the Fukuoka Tenjin Cafe which opened in February 2024. We aim to bring new vibrancy to the city of Hakata, which is undergoing further development, by delivering a heartfelt coffee experience, with the hope that the rich moments and connections born from a cup of coffee will spread like ripples.
The interior design of the Hakata Cafe was handled by Tatsuya Nishinaga of TEKI DESIGN, with the concept of "connections spreading from a single cup." Inspired by the city of Fukuoka, which has developed along its topography, a gently curved coffee counter has been installed inside. At the center of the counter, baristas meticulously brew coffee one cup at a time, with seating areas naturally surrounding them. Just as a drip creates ripples, the activities centered around coffee spread throughout the interior and eventually create rich connections within the entire space and the city. We have prepared seating options such as bench seats and table seats, which can be chosen according to your preferred way of spending time, from enjoying coffee alone to spending time with family and friends, to accommodate various scenes throughout the day.
The Hakata Cafe offers a variety of drinks, from specialty coffees carefully prepared by baristas to non-coffee drinks such as "Matcha Latte" and the seasonal "Yuzu Lemonade Float," ensuring a comfortable time for everyone. For food, the "Toast Menta Potato," a Hakata Cafe exclusive, expresses Hakata's food culture in the Blue Bottle Coffee style. Using bread from the popular Fukuoka bakery "Okuzoe Seipan," we offer a unique menu at the Hakata Cafe that allows you to enjoy an encounter with local flavors.
Furthermore, as a Hakata Cafe limited item, we will also release a "Rattan Mug" in collaboration with the "TSUBAME" series by "GLOCAL STANDARD PRODUCTS," which creates original products with the concept of "unchanging and impartial." Please take this opportunity to enjoy this special item, available only here.
People gather around coffee, and as their individual times and connections overlap, a new cityscape is nurtured. We hope that the Hakata Cafe will be the starting point, and that the ripples born from a cup of coffee will add new color to the future of Hakata.
HAKATA CAFE DESIGN
The interior design of the Hakata Cafe was handled by Tatsuya Nishinaga of TEKI DESIGN, who also designed the Blue Bottle Coffee Harajuku Cafe. The symbol of the space, with the design concept of "connections spreading from a single cup," is a gently curved coffee counter, reminiscent of coffee drops creating ripples. It is inspired by the cityscape of Fukuoka, which has developed along its topography. The space, where seating areas surround the coffee counter for guests to spend their time as they please, creates a natural sense of unity as gazes, movements, and stays gently expand from the point of coffee extraction.
The interior features materials that convey the charm of craftsmanship rooted in Kyushu. Imari ware from Saga Prefecture is used for some of the table tops, and traditional handmade Japanese paper from Nao, also passed down in Saga Prefecture, is used for the walls, allowing visitors to experience the unique culture and craftsmanship of the region.
We hope that the small ripples born from a cup of coffee will spread, connecting people to people and people to the city. In a space filled with this sentiment, we hope you will feel the new landscape of Hakata along with the coffee carefully brewed by our baristas.
Comment from Tatsuya Nishinaga, TEKI DESIGN
"Forming new landscapes while following history"
The city of Fukuoka spreads out with plains and mountain ranges along the shape of Hakata Bay.
From the Genkai Sea, a rich fishing ground, it connects to the calm Hakata Bay, and several rivers flow perpendicular to Hakata Bay.
This blessed topography and water resources have led to the city's expansion to its current state.
We have placed the coffee counter along the topography of Fukuoka City.
At the center of the counter, a barista carefully drips a cup of coffee.
The circulation paths and seats spread out along the ripples created by the drip, connecting to the shape of the ceiling.
The textured plaster, reminiscent of sand or grains, forms the space through scraping and deposition.
Imari ware is used for the table tops, Nao handmade Japanese paper for the walls, and items made in Kyushu for the chairs, gradually weaving in regional materials.
The ripples of the drip, spreading from a cup of coffee, extend from the cup to the counter,
from the counter to the seating areas, and throughout the entire interior, eventually forming the cityscape.
People gather around coffee, and their outlines draw the shape of a new city.

TEKI CONCEPT
Being in the right place in the right way
We want to express such a state.
In daily life, we are surrounded by a lot of information.
Is it necessary or unnecessary?
Giving form to information, removing form from information
By pursuing and organizing from both sides,
I believe it leads to the right state.
We want to continue to carefully design these small operations.

Kyoto-Style Espresso
Kyoto-Style Espresso is a new iced espresso developed with inspiration from the water drip low-temperature extraction culture rooted in Kyoto. Using Blue Bottle Coffee's standard blend "Hays Valley Espresso," it is carefully extracted using "time" rather than heat, achieving a smooth texture, natural sweetness, and clear taste that were difficult with conventional iced espresso drinks. Based on Kyoto-Style Espresso, which has a deep flavor reminiscent of chocolate and bright aromas like stone fruits, we offer a variety of drinks prepared with Blue Bottle Coffee's sensibility, from classic iced cafe lattes to shakeratos and seasonal drinks. HAKATA CAFE LIMITED ITEM
[Hakata Cafe / Official Online Store Exclusive]
Rattan Mug 5,280 yen
A special mug inspired by the harmonious blend of different materials in the Hakata Cafe's interior design is now available exclusively at the Hakata Cafe and official online store. This collaboration with the "TSUBAME" series by "GLOCAL STANDARD PRODUCTS," which creates original products with the concept of "unchanging and impartial," combines an enamel body made of stainless steel fired with a glassy glaze in Tsubame City, Niigata Prefecture, with a handle made of natural rattan. This creates a design that harmonizes inorganic beauty with organic warmth. Each piece is carefully handcrafted by skilled artisans, with its own unique expression. Enamel is resistant to odors and does not easily impart flavors, preserving the original taste of beverages, allowing you to enjoy the true flavor of coffee. Rattan deepens in color with use, developing a rich texture over time. It is perfect for use at home, in the office, or outdoors, and will gently accompany your daily coffee time. We hope you will enjoy this item with your favorite coffee, whether at home, in the rich nature of Kyushu, or while traveling. Just as the time spent around coffee and connections with people gently expand, we hope you will cherish it for a long time as it becomes a part of your daily life.
