Godo Kaisha BIKAS COFFEE (Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo; Representative Employee Yuki Suga; hereinafter: BIKAS COFFEE), which handles rare and high-quality coffee beans grown through agroforestry in the mountains of Nepal, will begin recruiting owners for the 6th term of its "BIKAS COFFEE VILLAGE" project, which involves planting coffee seedlings named by individuals, from Friday, April 17, 2026. Entering its 6th term, this time, three new projects will be launched. In addition to the Nepalese villages of Harpan and Dalinbot, where trees have been planted so far, tree planting will be carried out in the new village of Nirmal Pokhari. BIKAS COFFEE will also undertake its first challenge in coffee processing and develop livestock projects rooted in the lives of the villagers. During the owner recruitment period, events and pop-up shops will be held nationwide with participating companies in the tree-planting project and local communities, aiming to create a society where the aspirations of all people, from production to consumption, converge and develop across national borders.

■ What is "BIKAS COFFEE VILLAGE"?

BIKAS COFFEE VILLAGE is a project where individuals can plant coffee trees named after themselves in Harpan Village, Kaski District, and Dalinbot Village, Kavrepalanchok District, Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal (hereinafter Nepal). It takes three years from planting a seedling until it bears fruit. Participants can enjoy observing the progress and how their planted aspirations grow with the tree over these three years. After three years, the coffee, imbued with the farmers' carefully nurtured efforts, will be delivered to the supporters. This project proposes a new way of "consuming" coffee, which is often subject to mass consumption.

■ BIKAS COFFEE Decides to Plant Trees in Nirmal Pokhari Village, the Third Village in its Tree Planting Project History. Expanding Production Bases that Foster Forests and Livelihoods.

In the 6th term, the tree planting bases will be expanded to three villages. Our goal is not merely to increase production, but to foster forests and support village life through coffee tree planting. Agroforestry, which involves growing coffee alongside diverse plants and animals, enriches the soil, protects water sources, and preserves ecosystems, enabling villagers to continue farming while maintaining their traditional way of life. Expanding production bases not only broadens the future of coffee but also contributes to protecting the livelihoods and environment of the people living in those areas.

■ New Challenges in Processing Methods and Livestock Farming. Expanding Possibilities for Flavor and Livelihoods.

In this project, we will not only focus on coffee production but also undertake new challenges in processing and the daily lives of villagers. First, BIKAS COFFEE will introduce the "natural process" coffee processing method for the first time. We will develop drying environments suitable for the natural process and establish a management system to stabilize quality, exploring new flavor possibilities that leverage the sweetness and aroma of the fruit with local farmers. This will add a wider variety of flavored coffees to our lineup, allowing us to deliver coffee that suits more customers' preferences. Additionally, inspired by the desire of farmers in Harpan Village to "earn income with their own hands," we will launch a goat farming project. Goats will not only serve as a source of income, but their manure will also be used as fertilizer for coffee cultivation, creating a circular system where agriculture and daily life are interconnected. This kind of circularity is also a characteristic of agroforestry. Through these initiatives, we will challenge ourselves to create new value that connects production, daily life, and consumption.

■ 12 Companies Participate, Over 3,500 Trees Planted. Further Expanding the "GLOBALACTION" Community.

Since its inception in 2021, BIKAS COFFEE VILLAGE has achieved its crowdfunding goals for five consecutive terms, with over 3,500 coffee trees planted in Nepal over the past five years. Since last year, many companies have also endorsed the project as a new option for environmental contribution and regional support through tree planting.
In addition to developing its scale and influence through new co-creation of GLOBALACTION* with companies, owners are gathering from all over the country through nationwide pop-up shops via camper vans, creating new relationships in each region.
Furthermore, "Coffee Cherry Syrup," developed in the winter of 2024 using coffee cherry (pulp), has become a popular product supported by many customers, penetrating as a new way to enjoy coffee even for those who don't drink much coffee, by finding new value in resources that would normally be discarded.
BIKAS COFFEE VILLAGE aims for further development as a project created with companies, consumers, and producers.

*GLOBALACTION: In an era where "sustainability" is advocated, we are called upon to make "correct choices" (responsibility) to protect the earth and society, such as "ethical consumption" and "food loss." However, before making "correct choices," if it is not a "fun choice" for ourselves, that is, if we don't have the feeling of "liking" it, our activities will not be sustainable. It would be good if society could allow everyone to express more of what they feel is "important to me! I like this! This is interesting!". By giving shape to "personal value (what is good for that person)," economic and social value are also created. Initiatives where personal, economic, and social values overlap are what BIKAS COFFEE considers "GLOBALACTION."

■ Environmental Effects of the Tree Planting Project "BIKAS COFFEE VILLAGE"

BIKAS COFFEE's tree planting project has planted a cumulative total of 3,000 trees over five years, and is expected to absorb a maximum of approximately 30 tons of carbon dioxide (CO₂) annually *1. This amount of CO₂ absorption is equivalent to about 13 cars driving approximately 10,000 km *2, or 300 one-way flights between Tokyo and Osaka *3, demonstrating a significant carbon offset effect while achieving both sustainable agriculture and economic value.

*1 Estimated annual CO₂ absorption per coffee tree is approximately 5-10 kg | References: Forestry Agency [1], Negash et al. 2013 [2]
*2 Calculated with CO₂ emissions of approximately 2.3 tons for a gasoline car driving approximately 10,000 km
*3 Calculated with approximately 100 kg/trip for a one-way flight between Tokyo and Osaka

■ What is BIKAS COFFEE?

"BIKAS" means "development" in Nepali. There were rare and high-quality coffee beans grown through agroforestry deep in the mountains of Nepal. BIKAS COFFEE was born to create a distribution system for these beans, provide employment support, and promote regional development. With the philosophy of being chosen not only for taste and aroma but also for its meaning, we aim to be a D2C coffee brand with high traceability, where the faces of all people involved from production to consumption are visible. In October 2021, we opened our first physical store in Edogawabashi, Tokyo, and in April 2024, we started a camper van business for mobile sales. We are conducting business trips nationwide, from Hokkaido in the north to Miyazaki Prefecture in the south.
