- A mid-to-late stage herbicide for paddy rice that supports various application methods, including drone application.
- Highly effective against hard-to-control weeds in paddy rice.
- Contributes to the needs of upscaling and labor-saving in rice farming through low-volume application.
BASF Japan Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director and President: Hasibi Zeidam, hereinafter 'BASF') will launch the mid-to-late stage paddy rice herbicide 'Basagran Sky™ Liquid' on April 9, 2026, as a new formulation of the herbicide 'Basagran®', which has been trusted by farmers in the paddy rice sector for 50 years. This product is a liquid type of the Basagran agent with bentazone as its active ingredient, and it exhibits a high control effect against hard-to-control weeds in paddy rice, such as Schoenoplectus juncoides, Sagittaria trifolia, and Ludwigia epilobioides.
Basagran Sky™ Liquid is a selective foliar herbicide that shows excellent efficacy against weeds during their growing season as a mid-to-late stage herbicide for paddy rice. While it inhibits the photosynthesis of target weeds, it is highly safe for paddy rice. It can be used for both transplanted and direct-seeded paddy rice.
In addition to backpack sprayers and riding-type management machines, Basagran Sky™ Liquid is also suitable for drone application. As farmland consolidation and scaling up advance in recent years, it responds to the growing need for diverse application methods aimed at improving work efficiency. Drone application enables low-volume spraying of 1.6 liters per 10 ares, contributing to the realization of labor-saving and efficient weed control operations.
Soichiro Fuji, General Manager of the Agro Solutions Division at BASF Japan, stated: 'We are very pleased to be able to launch Basagran Sky™ Liquid, which meets the needs of paddy rice producers who demand labor-saving and high weed control efficacy by supporting diverse application methods. Since Basagran® was launched as a granule and wettable powder in 1975, it has gained high trust from farmers around the world. This launch demonstrates that BASF has continuously worked on securing yields and sustainable agriculture while addressing the changing challenges of weed control.'
