Autodesk (Headquarters: California, USA / President & CEO: Andrew Anagnost) today announced new updates aimed at strengthening workflow collaboration in the Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and Operations (AECO) industry. This announcement includes the launch of "Forma Building Design," a new solution for the conceptual design phase, as well as enhanced cloud connectivity centered around Autodesk Forma® (hereinafter, Forma) and Revit®, which are cloud platforms for the AECO industry.
### Background: Fragmented Data and Inefficient Workflows
While design teams possess many tools, a key challenge remains the lack of collaboration across processes spanning planning, design, and construction. Project data often remains fragmented, and the context behind decisions is frequently lost when handed over to the next stage. As a result, teams spend time reorganizing information instead of focusing on their core design tasks.
These updates focus on eliminating such friction rather than adding new tools. Following the recent milestone of integrating construction functionalities into Forma, this initiative further advances the vision presented at Autodesk University 2025, strengthening workflow connectivity across the entire project lifecycle. The goal is to realize an integrated cloud platform for the AECO industry, where data flows more smoothly, workflow consistency is maintained, and clear results can be generated from the early stages of a project.
What is needed are workflows and platforms that preserve design intent and knowledge generated at each stage and carry it forward to the next. This concept of "design and make intelligence" means that data, decisions, and insights gained in planning, design, construction, and operations continue with the project without interruption at handover. This allows AI and automation to provide context-based value, enabling teams to make subsequent decisions based on past achievements.
### Forma Building Design Launched
Forma Building Design is a new design and analysis solution specialized for the conceptual design phase. It was developed with the aim of increasing flexibility in early design considerations, with further functional enhancements planned for the future.
While early design is the stage where the most critical decisions are made, many architects use tools developed for later design stages, making rapid and flexible exploration difficult. Forma Building Design aims to resolve these constraints.
With this solution, users can set up sites based on geographic information in minutes and quickly create and edit facades, floor plans, and unit configurations using automated tools. It also allows for environmental performance analysis, such as sunlight, solar radiation time, and carbon.
Furthermore, once a design proposal is finalized, the project is imported into Revit as a native model with location information, including all site information and building elements. This reduces rework and ensures that design intent is accurately reflected.
