A Future Where Walking, Work, and Expressions are Replaced by Apps. Whose Future Is It Anyway? The Sci-Fi Novel "Expression App" by Mr. Sasafuji

Synopsis

In the near future, Brain-Machine Interface (BMI) terminals are commonplace. The protagonist, a university student, uses a BMI terminal on the train to immerse himself in VR and enthusiastically attends a live concert by the virtual idol "Maruma Luna."

However, upon returning from VR, he notices students opposite him whispering and laughing. The BMI terminal lacks a function to prevent "expression leakage," and his expressions during immersion were exposed on the train.

The protagonist had given up on immersive experiences outside, but his life changes with the appearance of the "Expression App," which substitutes for facial expressions. Comfortable immersive experiences then begin to automate walking, commuting, and work, becoming a social phenomenon. What awaits beyond that...?
