・ The Asia-Pacific Data Center Association (APDCA) today announced the groundbreaking regional initiative 'Sustainable Digital Infrastructure Agreement (SDIA),' aimed at promoting sustainability in the data center sector. The goal is to ensure cross-sector alignment, demonstrate leadership, and drive industry-led solutions to address sustainability challenges.

・ The SDIA establishes the first common baseline for reliable, effective, and future-oriented industry goals in APAC. It is an agreement that takes into account the diversity of climate, environment, energy, and water resources in the Asia-Pacific market.

・ Common voluntary targets are set in four key sustainability areas: energy efficiency, clean energy utilization, water resource management, and the circular economy. This will promote the transition to low-carbon digital infrastructure with climate resilience across the region.

Singapore, March 26, 2026 - The Asia-Pacific Data Center Association (APDCA) today, coinciding with International Data Center Day, announced the groundbreaking Asia-Pacific (APAC) wide initiative, the 'Sustainable Digital Infrastructure Agreement (SDIA),' aimed at promoting sustainability in the data center industry.

The SDIA establishes the first common baseline for reliable, effective, and future-oriented industry commitments in APAC, reflecting a shared commitment to the growth of sustainable digital infrastructure while taking into account the varied circumstances of each market within the region.

Furthermore, the SDIA sets voluntary targets in the following four key sustainability areas to support the transition to low-carbon, climate-resilient digital infrastructure in APAC:

・ Energy efficiency

・ Clean energy utilization

・ Water resource management

・ Circular economy

This agreement, as a voluntary and non-binding framework, aims to complement national and regional regulations rather than replace them. It also serves as a platform for continuous collaboration and dialogue between industry and government, and is designed as a 'living framework' that is continuously updated and evolved, with the intention of reviewing targets and commitments in the future.

Jeremy Deutsch, Chairman of APDCA, stated:

"The SDIA demonstrates the industry's collective commitment to pursuing both digital transformation and sustainability in the Asia-Pacific region. This agreement establishes the first common baseline for industry commitments across APAC and serves as a systematic platform to promote dialogue between governments and industry for further progress. The data center industry will work in collaboration with policymakers and other stakeholders to realize sustainable digital and AI transformation in the region."

Anuar Fariz Abdul Fattah, CEO of Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), praised the initiative as a timely effort amidst APAC's acceleration of digital and AI growth, commenting as follows:

"The SDIA reflects the region's commitment to balancing progress in digital transformation with sustainability. As Malaysia aims to become an AI nation by 2030, the importance of sustainable, resilient, and energy-efficient digital infrastructure is growing. Against the backdrop of increasing demand for digital infrastructure due to the expansion of technologies like cloud and AI, such collaborative efforts are essential for building a sustainable and climate-resilient digital ecosystem. MDEC will continue to support this transition and strive to strengthen Malaysia's position as a key digital hub in APAC."
