The Chain Museum Inc. Yoko Makoshi is a painter who continues to densely depict human life and soul.
A new art museum will be born in the mountains of Obuse, rich in nature.
Yoko Makoshi was born in Tokyo in 1934. Having studied at the Tokyo University of the Arts, she has made "depicting the essence of humanity" her lifelong theme, and continues to energetically create large-scale works to this day. This museum will have 53 of her representative works, including oil paintings and etchings, on permanent display. Furthermore, it features a courtyard that shows different expressions depending on the season, and "YMAM CAFE" overlooking the spectacular view of the Five Mountains of Northern Shinshu, offering a moment where art and nature blend together.

Artist
Yoko Makoshi
Born in Tokyo in 1934. Completed graduate studies at Tokyo University of the Arts. In 1973, she traveled to Europe and the U.S. as the first female overseas research fellow of the Agency for Cultural Affairs. She has received numerous awards, including the Honorable Mention at the Yasui Prize Exhibition and the Grand Prize at the Yasuda Kasai Togo Seiji Museum of Art. She has held solo exhibitions in Paris, NY, Beijing, etc., and has been active internationally, including exhibiting by invitation at both the Beijing and London Olympics. In 2001, she became a member of the inaugural faculty when the doctoral program at Tama Art University was established. In 2006, she became a visiting professor at Tama Art University Graduate School. In 2014, she received the Japan Art Academy Prize. In 2018, she became a member of the Japan Art Academy. In 2022, she was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette. Currently, she is a member of the Japan Art Academy, visiting professor at Tama Art University Graduate School, member of the Dokuritsu Bijutsu Kyokai (Independent Fine Arts Association), committee member of the Women Painters Association, and auditor of the Japan Artists Association.
Yoko Makoshi Obuse Memorial Art Museum
Centered on oil paintings, 53 of Yoko Makoshi's representative works, including etchings, are on display. In addition, there is a courtyard designed for visitors to spend a comfortable time, and a cafe overlooking the Five Mountains of Northern Shinshu.
