arcserve Japan G.K. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, hereinafter Arcserve Japan) will begin offering the latest version 1.6 of "Arcserve® Cyber Resilient Storage (CRS)" on-premise edition, an immutable (*1) storage solution specialized in ransomware protection, starting April 1, 2026.

The CRS series is an immutable storage solution specialized in protecting backup data for the integrated backup/recovery solution "Arcserve® Unified Data Protection (UDP)", and is offered in three types: on-premise, cloud, and appliance editions.

The latest release of the on-premise edition, Arcserve CRS 1.6, includes important new features for customers seeking environments with strict security requirements and improved operational management efficiency.

Arcserve Japan will promptly respond to customer requests through continuous functional enhancements of the Arcserve CRS series. In the event of a ransomware attack, it protects critical backup data, supporting rapid recovery and business continuity for enterprises.

[New Features of Arcserve CRS 1.6]

Arcserve CRS 1.6 introduces three key improvements: 1) Closed Network Support, 2) Network Profile Management, and 3) SMART(*2) Disk Alerts. These new features enable support for a wide range of needs, from physical layer monitoring to operations in specialized network environments.

1) Closed Network (Dark Site) Support

Supports operation in "air gap (physical isolation)" environments with strict security requirements, completely isolated from external networks. To achieve this, the following three features are added:

  • Offline Updates: Arcserve CRS software updates can now be performed offline using USB media, DVDs, etc.

  • Local NTP(*3) Server Support: Arcserve CRS requires time synchronization with an NTP server that supports NTS(*4) for its internal operations. With Arcserve CRS 1.6, local NTP servers are supported, so data immutability, retention policies, and auditing functions are maintained even when communication with external NTP servers is not possible.

  • Offline Export of Support Bundles: Information such as logs (support bundles) can now be exported offline to USB media, etc. This allows support bundles to be provided to Arcserve Technical Support even if Arcserve CRS is not connected to the internet.

※Internet connection is still required for remote assistance (remote access) by Arcserve Technical Support.

2) Network Profile Management

Profiles are available to simplify deployment and ensure consistent and secure network operations.

  • Dynamic Network Profile Switching: Administrators can predefine, assign, and switch network profiles without changing the immutable state of data.

  • Maintaining Security: Achieves controlled connection changes while maintaining tamper-proof functionality and auditable network configurations across the entire environment.

3) SMART Disk Alerts

To continuously visualize the health and reliability of physical storage drives, a monitoring function utilizing SMART telemetry(*6) has been added for CRS RAID(*5) environments.

  • Long-term Stability: Enables physical predictive detection of disk failures, which is essential for maintaining the immutable and highly durable storage that forms the foundation of Arcserve CRS.

  • Reliability Verification: By gaining detailed insight into the physical disk status, the visibility and protection level of backup data are improved.

[Arcserve CRS Series Product Overview]

<Key Features>

The Arcserve CRS series is dedicated storage designed to protect data from cyberattacks for the integrated data protection solution "Arcserve UDP".

  • Immutable Snapshots(*7)Automatically captures unchangeable snapshots based on a specified schedule. Even if administrator privileges are compromised and backup data is destroyed, it can be reliably restored to the state before the attack.

  • Convenience of Integrated Management: Transparently manageable from the familiar "Arcserve UDP Console". Data store specification and settings are easy, allowing for smooth integration into existing environments.

  • Efficient Storage Utilization: Inherits deduplication, compression, and continuous incremental backup features, supporting long-term backup generation retention while keeping costs down.

<Deployment Options>

The Arcserve CRS series can be selected from the following forms depending on the customer's environment and requirements:

  • CRS (On-premise Edition): Software format installed and used on server hardware

  • CRS Appliance: Appliance format integrating hardware and software. Significantly simplifies deployment and provides comprehensive support from Arcserve.

  • Cloud CRS: Service format for storing data in Arcserve's cloud storage via the internet.

*1 Immutable: Means unchangeable. Immutable storage protects backup data from cyberattacks by retaining unchangeable snapshots.

*2 S.M.A.R.T (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology): A self-diagnostic function built into storage devices such as HDDs and SSDs.

*3 NTP (Network Time Protocol): A protocol for synchronizing computer system time by communicating with a time server over a network.

*4 NTS (Network Time Security): An extended specification that provides authentication and encryption security for NTP communication.

*5 RAID: A technology that allows multiple HDDs to be recognized and displayed as a single drive.

*6 Telemetry: A technology that automatically collects and measures information and data from remote locations using sensors, etc., and transmits it to a central system for monitoring and analysis.

*7 Snapshot: A function that quickly saves an image of data at a certain point in time, as if taking a photograph, in its exact state.
