### Selected Project
Technology Development Theme: Project for Accelerating Implementation of Satellite Data Use Systems
Implementing Organization: (Lead Institution) Archeda Inc.
Principal Investigator: Hirotada Tsumura
Title of Technology Development Project: 'Advancement of a Nature-Based Carbon Credit Platform for Asia Using Satellite Data'
### Background of the Technology Development
In recent years, as decarbonization efforts by companies and governments expand globally, the demand for nature-based carbon credits has been rapidly increasing. However, creating carbon credits from natural environments such as forests and farmlands faces challenges, including the accurate measurement of greenhouse gas absorption, ensuring the transparency and credibility of projects, and wide-area, long-term monitoring. Consequently, improving the efficiency and sophistication of the MRV (Measurement, Reporting, Verification) process has become a critical theme. Satellite data is gaining attention as a key technology in the MRV of nature-based carbon credits due to its ability to conduct wide-area and continuous observation.
### Archeda's Initiatives
Archeda is developing an MRV platform for the creation of nature-based carbon credits utilizing satellite data. In this project, we will promote the advancement of environmental monitoring technology for forests, agricultural lands, and mangroves using satellite data, enhance the efficiency of the carbon credit creation process, and expand the platform for project developers in the Asian region. Through these efforts, we aim to improve the transparency and reliability of carbon credits and contribute to the healthy development of the market. Furthermore, by accelerating the social implementation of MRV solutions based on satellite data, we will also contribute to the expanded application of space technology in the environmental field.
### About Archeda
Under the mission 'Unlock the hidden value of the Earth,' Archeda is a startup that develops dMRV solutions for nature-based carbon credit projects using satellite data. We provide optimal analysis solutions at each stage of the project development process (site selection, project registration, monitoring, credibility checks, etc.). Our company focuses on projects based on natural environments such as forests (Afforestation, Reforestation, and Revegetation: ARR; Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in developing countries: REDD+), rice paddies (Alternate Wetting and Drying: AWD), and mangroves, and we are compatible with international methodologies like VCS, Gold Standard, and JCM. Additionally, we offer solutions for municipalities and forestry operators, such as estimating forest resource volume and detecting illegal logging using satellite data.

FAQ
What project was Archeda selected for?
It's for JAXA's Space Strategic Fund, under the 'Project for Accelerating Implementation of Satellite Data Use Systems.' They will enhance their nature-based carbon credit platform for Asia using satellite data.
What is MRV?
It stands for Measurement, Reporting, and Verification. It's the process of accurately measuring and reporting greenhouse gas absorption, which is then verified by a third party to ensure the credibility of carbon credits.
Why is satellite data important?
Because it allows for continuous observation of large areas like forests and farmlands, it is a key technology for making the monitoring process for carbon credit creation more efficient, transparent, and reliable.
