Japan Pet Disaster Preparedness Association to Hold Inaugural Press Conference - Scheduled for May 20, 2025 - Accepting Applications for Media Participation!

The Japan Pet Disaster Preparedness Association (Location: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Hideki Nonaka) will hold an inaugural press conference for media organizations to coincide with the establishment of the association.

At this press conference, we will announce the purpose of the association's establishment, future activity policies, and the development of a pet disaster preparedness system through collaboration with local governments and private companies, against the backdrop of the current situation and challenges of pet disaster preparedness in Japan.

In recent disasters such as earthquakes and heavy rains, there have been many cases where pet acceptance systems in evacuation shelters are not adequately prepared. This has led to the social issue of so-called 'pet refugees,' where households with pets cannot use evacuation shelters and are forced to choose sleeping in their cars or evacuating at home.

To address this issue, the Japan Pet Disaster Preparedness Association will promote the creation of a mechanism to support pet disaster preparedness throughout society through:

・Promoting pet-accompanied, co-evacuation, and co-room evacuation ・Establishing secondary pet evacuation shelters ・Utilizing digital technology for pet disaster preparedness ・Collaborating with local governments and businesses

At this press conference, we will introduce concrete plans for these initiatives and explain the future direction of pet disaster preparedness systems.
