Aisin Corporation (Headquarters: Kariya City, Aichi Prefecture; President: Moritaka Yoshida) has developed a compact and highly efficient device to separate and capture the entire amount of CO₂ (3t-CO₂/day) emitted from one melting furnace at its Nishio Die-casting Plant and has begun demonstration experiments. The CO₂ separation and recovery technology used in this demonstration is a chemical absorption method using an absorption liquid. CO₂ generated in the melting furnace is absorbed by the liquid in an "absorption tower," and then released in a "stripping tower" to be recovered as high-purity CO₂. The recovered CO₂ will be reused as methane fuel, concrete raw materials, etc., to achieve resource circulation. This device achieves miniaturization by adopting a uniquely designed recovery mechanism and an absorption liquid optimized for that mechanism. In addition, by incorporating a heat recovery system that effectively uses the waste heat from the melting furnace as the heating source required for CO₂ recovery, the energy required to operate the device is reduced. This resource circulation system began its evaluation in 2023, targeting an amount equivalent to about 1/100th of the CO₂ generated from one melting furnace (0.024t-CO₂/day). The current demonstration is positioned as the next step, expanding the demonstration scale to verify its performance. Furthermore, utilizing this technology, we are promoting development and demonstration for various CO₂ emission sources and utilization destinations through a NEDO project (High-efficiency CO₂ recovery using waste heat from biomass power generation and production of high-purity green CO₂). Resource circulation flow and the scope of this demonstration. A device to separate and capture CO₂ from one melting furnace at the Nishio Die-casting Plant. Aisin will continue to promote technological development that improves the environment and society, realizing its corporate philosophy of "Inspiring 'movement,' creating tomorrow.". <Related Links> ・Evaluation of a "Resource Circulation System" for CO₂ separation, recovery, and utilization started at the Nishio Plant (News Release, May 29, 2023) ・Technology research and development project for seed discovery and commercialization of new energy, etc. (Link to NEDO website)
