The 9th Japan AED Foundation School Forum: Aiming for Zero Sudden Deaths in Schools ~ Promoting Life-Saving Education by Teachers from Elementary School ~ to be Held

　The leading cause of death in school accidents involving children and students is "sudden death."
　The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) has called for improving schools' crisis response capabilities, including active use of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and AEDs, in its "Guidelines for Responding to School Accidents" (created in March 2016, revised in March 2024). Furthermore, the curriculum guidelines for junior and senior high schools, implemented from fiscal years 2021 and 2022, explicitly state that students should be taught primary life support procedures, such as chest compressions and AED use, through practical training.

　In Saitama City, following the accident in September 2011 where Asuka Kirita suddenly collapsed and died during an ekiden practice, the "Accident Response Text for Physical Activities, etc. ~ASUKA Model~" was created to promote consistent life-saving education from elementary school. Municipalities nationwide are increasingly adopting approaches like Saitama City's, starting from elementary school, and there is a definite increase in cases where students' actions have saved the lives of family members and citizens.

　In Part 1 of the forum, an open class on life-saving education (CPR and AED use) by teachers will be held. In Part 2, a symposium involving medical and emergency personnel such as doctors, school and board of education officials, MEXT and other education-related personnel, and parents will explore initiatives aimed at achieving "zero sudden deaths in schools."
