[Video] NO MAKE Follows Machamacha After Her Breakthrough on 'Enta no Kamisama'
'The Time Has Finally Come to Prove Myself': Machamacha Expresses Deep Gratitude to 'Enta no Kamisama' After Paying Off Debts and Gaining Her Parents’ Approval
The program closely follows Machamacha, who runs a snack bar in Koenji, Tokyo, showcasing her genuine interactions with customers and her efforts to liven up the bar by serving her signature homemade meat sauce. Born to parents who run a beauty salon in Chiba Prefecture, Machamacha pursued a career in comedy against their wishes. However, success was slow to come, and she accumulated nearly 3 million yen in debt to cover living expenses. Just as she was considering quitting comedy, her appearance on Nippon TV’s variety show 'Enta no Kamisama' led to her breakthrough. Reflecting on that time, Machamacha said, 'The time has finally come to prove myself.' Her appearances on the show led to a surge in regional performance gigs, completely transforming her life. 'I was able to repay my debts, my parents finally accepted my career, I could go where I wanted, and even rent my own place,' she revealed. Regarding 'Enta no Kamisama,' she expressed deep gratitude, stating, 'Among all the performers, I believe I’m the one who thinks of it as a true “god.”'
The 'Unbelievable Stress' Behind Her Peak: Machamacha Recalls the Grueling Filming That Still Affects Her Hearing
Though Machamacha joined the ranks of successful comedians, she reveals she endured 'unbelievable stress' behind the scenes. The main source, she says, was her relationship with her former manager, who failed to provide invoices and never showed up on set, leaving her to attend jobs without knowing the details. She also recalls grueling shoots during her busiest period: 'We’d go to remote seaside locations without sleep and I’d have to free dive—but I couldn’t do it.' She adds, 'I almost fell in love with the underwater cameraman because my life was on the line.' With her manager absent even in such high-risk situations, she recalls thinking, 'This is truly unbearable.' The stress took a physical toll: 'I still lose my hearing under stress to this day,' she admits, revealing the lasting impact of her past working conditions.
'You’ll Probably Say, “What Are You Talking About?”': Machamacha’s Views on Marriage at 50 and Her 'Happy' Life as a Snack Bar Mama in Koenji
Now 50 and proudly single, Machamacha states her desire to marry 'vanished long ago.' She explains, 'You’ll probably say, “What are you talking about?” but after seeing so many cases, marriage just doesn’t seem enjoyable.' She criticizes those who claim, 'Now that I’m a parent, I understand my own parents,' saying, 'I understand that deeply even without becoming a parent.' Observing such attitudes, she questions, 'What even is marriage?' Regarding her current life, she smiles brightly: 'I only do things that make me happy. I suppose the world would call this happiness. If someone called it unhappiness, they’d truly be cursed. I’m nothing but happy.'
