Greenland Resort Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: 1616 Shimote, Arao City, Kumamoto Prefecture, President & CEO: Takatoshi Matsuno), a member of the Saibu Gas Group, held a safety prayer ceremony for the construction of its new roller coaster, 'Hybrid Coaster WADATSUMI,' and a joint press conference with co-operators Sanoyas Ride Co., Ltd. and manufacturer Great Coasters International, Inc. (GCI).
This release is the third report regarding the 'Hybrid Coaster WADATSUMI.'
Praying for Safe and Successful Construction
Prior to the commencement of construction for the 'Hybrid Coaster WADATSUMI,' which is slated to open in the spring of 2028, a safety prayer ceremony was held at the construction site.
Approximately 40 related parties attended the ritual, including Takatoshi Matsuno, President & CEO of Greenland Resort Co., Ltd.; Atsushi Daimon, President & CEO of Sanoyas Ride Co., Ltd.; and Clair Hain Jr., President & CEO of Great Coasters International, Inc.
In line with the name 'WADATSUMI,' which is derived from the sea god in Japanese mythology, the ritual was presided over by Koki Azumi, chief priest of Shigaumi Shrine (Higashi Ward, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture), known as the head shrine for sea god worship throughout Japan.
Through rituals such as the recitation of prayers, the purification ceremony, and the offering of tamagushi, attendees prayed for the safe and smooth progress of construction. They also expressed their hopes that the attraction would become beloved by many customers from both Japan and abroad upon its completion, and that it would become a new symbol of the region, cherished for years to come.

Under the theme 'A Challenge to Create the Future of Kumamoto and Kyushu,' the press conference announced that the introduction of a new roller coaster, the first in 21 years, would mark a further evolution for Greenland, coinciding with the park's 60th anniversary in July 2026. The first ride simulation video for 'Hybrid Coaster WADATSUMI' was also unveiled.
Regarding the background of introducing this attraction, Takatoshi Matsuno, President & CEO of Greenland Resort Co., Ltd., explained, 'As an amusement park with the most attractions in Japan, continuous investment is essential for further growth.' He also expressed his intention to create an experience that brings smiles to riders, aiming for a park that can be enjoyed by a wide range of generations, from children to seniors, rather than focusing on a specific demographic. He indicated plans to aim for a 10% increase in visitor numbers after the opening in the spring of 2028.
