The Kinki Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry established the 'Kagayaku Inochi no Monodukuri Suishin Sengen' (Shining Life Manufacturing Promotion Declaration) on February 19, 2026. This framework aims to foster social momentum, expand demand, and promote industrial development related to bio-manufacturing products and sectors by encouraging local governments to voluntarily declare their initiatives.
On April 27, 2026, Nagahama City officially joined this declaration, marking a first for any municipality in Shiga Prefecture. Moving forward, the Bureau will continue to encourage such declarations to build societal interest and advance the industrialization of bio-manufacturing.
Nagahama City has outlined the following four key initiatives to develop the bio-manufacturing industry through regional collaboration:
1. Development of the industrial infrastructure for bio-manufacturing. 2. Promotion of co-creation between local companies and startups. 3. Strengthening the human resource development ecosystem through industry-academia collaboration. 4. Fostering bio and science-oriented talent starting from primary and secondary education.
By implementing these measures, Nagahama aims to create a sustainable industrial base that nurtures innovation and talent within the local community.
