[For Peace of Mind During Disasters] Yamaha Motor x Iwata City: Clean Water System Installed, Demonstration Experiment Begins!

Iwata City, in collaboration with Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd., has commenced a demonstration experiment utilizing the company's water purification device, the "Yamaha Clean Water System." This purification device was installed at "Kabutozuka Park (4075-1 Mitsuke, Iwata City)," managed by the NPO Iwata City Sports Association, with the association's cooperation. This demonstration experiment, based on a comprehensive partnership agreement, aims to strengthen the supply system for daily living water in the event of large-scale disasters such as the Nankai Trough Earthquake, and to promote disaster prevention education and SDGs education during normal times. This installation, from a disaster prevention perspective, is the first of its kind in Japan.

## 1. Background and Purpose of the Demonstration Experiment

In past large-scale disasters, securing daily living water for laundry and toilet flushing became difficult for extended periods due to water outages, forcing affected residents into inconvenient lives.

Iwata City has been working to secure daily living water during large-scale disasters, for example, by recruiting "disaster relief wells." Through this demonstration experiment, the city aims to further strengthen its disaster-time water supply system. Additionally, by utilizing actual water supply facilities as educational materials, it will contribute to raising children's disaster prevention awareness and promoting their understanding of solving social issues.

On April 15 (Wednesday), the start and installation unveiling ceremony of the demonstration experiment was held.

The demonstration experiment is scheduled to last approximately two years, until March Reiwa 10 (March 2028).

## 2. What is the Yamaha Clean Water System?

Globally, over 2 billion people still lack access to safe drinking water, and more than 120 million people are said to be "water refugees" who rely on rivers and lakes for their daily water. Yamaha Motor developed the Clean Water System to resolve this global issue and has delivered over 50 units, primarily in Asia and Africa.

It features:
- Low running costs (no consumables or replacement parts required for filtration)
- Easy maintenance (no specialized technicians required)
- Environmentally friendly as it utilizes the natural water purification mechanism

Prior to this, on March 27 (Friday), an event was held where local children painted tanks to help the community feel familiar with the water purification device installed in Kabutozuka Park, Iwata City.
