■What is the Hornbill Conservation Project?

Borneo Conservation Trust Japan has been conducting a project to research hornbill ecology and create breeding environments tailored to their ecology since April 2018, with assistance from the Public Trust Fund Suntory World Bird Fund.

We are working on hornbill conservation through activities to promote hornbill breeding by installing artificial nests along the Kinabatangan River and conducting ecological surveys.

■ Event Outline

Dr. Ravinder Kaur (Hornbill Researcher) from the University of Malaya, Malaysia, and photographer Sanjitpaal Singh will visit Japan to speak about the ecology and importance of conserving endangered hornbills, and the role photography plays in conservation activities.

Hornbills, often called symbols of the rainforest, play a crucial role as seed dispersers in forest ecosystems, but their populations are declining due to habitat loss and poaching.

At this report meeting, you can learn about the latest research findings, the current state of conservation activities, and the importance of photographic documentation in nature conservation.
