■ About the Initiative
"How much is this item worth to you?"
In 'PRICE BY YOU,' we disclose the production cost for every item sold. This is not a 'price tag' but a 'reference.' Based on this, you decide how much you want to pay. There is no minimum or maximum amount. Your answer becomes your final payment.
This question brings the exhibition's core themes—"What is value?" and "What underlies your values?"—directly into the act of purchasing.
Proceeds will support future SHIFT80 activities.
■ Items for Sale
[Upcycled Vintage Collection]
Curated by SHIFT80 designer Oliver Ashike, based in Nairobi, who hand-selects each vintage piece from Gikomba Market. Oliver creates the designs, and 23 artisans in Nairobi/Kibera workshops reconstruct each garment by hand. After arriving in Japan, each piece undergoes individual inspection, repair (where possible), tagging, and cleaning at a processing company in Edogawa Ward, Tokyo.
[Framed Photographs]
Co-created by SHIFT80 photographer Ryo Masachika and youth from Kibera, a massive slum in Nairobi, Kenya. The images capture the city, their pride and beauty, and the colors of daily life. High-quality prints, developed and framed in Japanese labs.
■ About the Exhibition
SHIFT80, which creates works from fieldwork in Kibera, Nairobi, collaborates with artist The Mouse Kid.
The Mouse Kid treats capitalism as material, questioning the very conditions under which value is believed and circulated. Gold bars detached from market prices. Golden bubbles bursting with light. An "invisible hand" covered in banknotes. Their works intervene within these movements.
SHIFT80 shares ways of living from within Kibera, a slum historically deemed "valueless" within capitalist exploitation systems, operating under a different logic of value.
"What is value?" "What underlies your values?" — Both artists open these questions from different angles.

Comment from Migi Sakata, Representative of SHIFT80
This time, we’ve decided to stop assigning fixed prices to certain items. Instead, we’re fully disclosing the production cost. Then, we want to ask you—how much is this item worth to you?
Your answer becomes your payment.
The exhibition’s theme is questioning the nature of value. 'PRICE BY YOU' is our attempt to place that question directly in your hands. Please take a moment to reflect on it at the venue.
