The Non-Profit Organization (NPO) Nakayoshi Gakuen Project has received a letter of appreciation from Omsatiya Village Municipality for its 'Nakayoshi Nepal Project,' implemented from June 1 to June 5, 2026, in the Rupandehi District of Lumbini Province, Nepal.
The letter expresses gratitude for the successful implementation and completion of the 'Cooperation and Activity Plan for the Educational Support Program' carried out by Nakayoshi Gakuen Project / Japan. This program was conducted across various local and religious schools within the municipality, accompanied by a range of educational activities.
This initiative was realized following a request from Usa Giri, a government advisor, who stated, 'We want to build a new nation by learning from Japan's education system,' amid growing interest in educational reform and nation-building under Nepal's new administration. Nakayoshi Gakuen conducted model classes based on Japanese educational practices at 12 local schools and introduced 'Learning Connected to the World: CoRe Loop,' a program linking Japanese and global classrooms through shared learning experiences.

The Role of Education in Nepal’s Period of Political and Social Transformation
Nepal's political landscape has undergone significant changes following youth-led anti-corruption protests in 2025. After the general election in March 2026, a new majority government was formed. The World Bank has analyzed that despite structural constraints and regional disparities, the new government has received a clear mandate to address growth-inhibiting factors, reduce corruption, and invest in infrastructure.
Furthermore, the Nepalese government's 2026/27 policy program outlines a 100-point national reform roadmap, including education reform, digital governance, job creation, and administrative reform. Education is positioned as a key area for building a new nation.
However, challenges remain in the education sector, including foundational literacy, teacher support, educational planning, inclusivity, and strengthening implementation capacity at the local government level. According to UNICEF Nepal, the government and international education partners are prioritizing improvements in basic literacy and numeracy, critical thinking, adaptability, and digital skills to ensure all children have access to quality education.
In this context, Nakayoshi Gakuen's recent initiative goes beyond a one-time international exchange. It represents a practical effort to create an 'educational cycle'—connecting learning and teaching materials developed in Japanese classrooms to learning opportunities for children in Nepal, and bringing local feedback back to schools in Japan.
Nakayoshi Gakuen’s Educational Support Activities in Nepal
Bringing Japanese Learning to Nepal—Model Classes Conducted at 12 Schools
During the Nakayoshi Nepal Project, the team visited local schools, religious schools, and community schools to conduct model classes for students and educators.
The classes combined themes such as Japan’s postwar recovery and education, science experiments, craftsmanship, peace education, disaster prevention education, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) education, and Japanese cultural experiences, enabling children to experience how 'everyday objects can become learning tools.'
Key class activities included:
- Lessons on water pressure and buoyancy using Cartesian divers - Light experiments using blacklight pens - State-change lessons using cotton candy machines - Physics and motion lessons using kendama YOYOs and humming tops - Creativity lessons using origami and handmade teaching materials - Disaster prevention education using disaster preparedness books and newspaper slippers - WASH education using soap - Peace education using peace posters and picture books - Japanese cultural experiences such as greetings and soba tasting
What Nakayoshi Gakuen values is not merely delivering aid materials. It emphasizes that learning, ideas, and creations by Japanese children become teaching tools in global classrooms, and that feedback from local children and teachers returns to Japan. This cycle enables Japanese students to feel that their learning is connected to the world.
Japanese Cultural Experience Classes
- Traditional Japanese games - Scientific experiments using cotton candy - Lessons on war and peace - Peace education using origami cranes
From 'Receiving Support' to 'Providing Support'—The CoRe Loop Model Introduced by UNESCO
Nakayoshi Gakuen’s 'Learning Connected to the World: CoRe Loop' is an educational model that delivers learning, teaching materials, and actions developed in Japanese schools and communities to overseas classrooms, and brings back the outcomes and responses to Japan. This model fosters children’s self-efficacy, curiosity, international understanding, and awareness of peacebuilding.
This concept has been introduced by UNESCO’s Inclusive Education in Action as a 'Return Loop' inclusive learning model that shifts recipients from being 'supported' to becoming 'supporters.'
Nakayoshi Gakuen’s activities featured in UNESCO IEA
In this Nepal project, teaching materials created by Japanese students and community members were actually used in Nepalese schools. Through diverse themes such as disaster prevention, peace, science, hygiene, and Japanese culture, children received the message that 'learning enriches the nation, and mutual support creates peace.'
