Sumitomo Construction Machinery Establishes New Factory in Natsushima-cho, Yokosuka — Expansion and Relocation from Chiba City

Sumitomo Construction Machinery Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: 2-1-1 Osaki, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Isamu Mitsuji), a group company of Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd., is establishing a manufacturing plant within the Yokosuka Manufacturing Site of Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd., located at 19 Natsushima-cho, Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture (Mayor: Katsumi Uechi).

Due to consistently strong orders for hydraulic excavators, the company will now launch operations at the Yokosuka plant as its second domestic production site, in addition to the Chiba plant.

Production Activities at the New Factory

The new factory will expand and relocate the production of large hydraulic excavators (35 tons and above), which require significant manufacturing effort, and specialized application models with elevated operator cabins from the Chiba plant to the Yokosuka site. This move aims to further enhance production efficiency and maximize output.

Under this plan, a new factory will be constructed within the Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. Yokosuka Manufacturing Site, utilizing existing buildings and facilities, with phased operations scheduled to begin in June of Reiwa 8 (2026). Yokosuka City will proceed with procedures to apply for corporate location promotion programs.
