Professionals For Impact (PFI; Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Mitsuki Hirai), a recruitment and career support firm specializing in the social impact sector, has announced the appointment of Shunsuke Mabuchi as an advisor. Mabuchi brings extensive experience from positions at the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), McKinsey & Company, the World Bank, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He currently oversees health system strengthening and pandemic preparedness at the Global Fund.

Mabuchi is an expert who has been at the forefront of global social issue resolution, including responses to the Ebola outbreak and proposals for post-COVID-19 international institutional reforms. In recent years, he has also been active in mentoring students and young professionals on career formation in the social impact sector through lectures and his book, "Creating a Path: How to Forge Your Own Life in an Era Without Rails."

While interest in social issues such as climate change, poverty, and inequality has grown, organizations tackling these issues face critical talent shortages. Experienced professionals often struggle to find entry points or visible career options in this space.

PFI aims to bridge this structural gap and develop the impact career market in Japan. Through Mabuchi’s participation, PFI will further expand the points of connection between talent eager to tackle social challenges and organizations that need them.

[Comment from Shunsuke Mabuchi] "I believe there is no essential boundary between business and social impact. The key to solving societal problems lies within business. PFI is making visible career options that foster growth and professional development while providing opportunities to take on challenges. If this initiative succeeds, Japan's top talent will be much closer to being involved in solving diverse social issues. I have high expectations for this and have joined as an advisor."

[Comment from CEO Mitsuki Hirai] "I have witnessed how organizations doing excellent work struggle to secure talent. Mabuchi, who has engaged in international cooperation from every perspective, is truly a figure who connects social issues with careers. With his insights, we will further broaden the connections between talent and organizations eager to solve social challenges."
