PETOKOTO, a pet wellness company operating with the mission of 'creating a world where pets are loved as family,' has announced the full renewal of its rescue dog and cat matching site, 'PETOKOTO OMUSUBI.'

The renewal stems from new challenges beyond the success of reducing culling rates. According to Ministry of the Environment statistics, the number of dogs and cats culled in Japan decreased from 101,338 in fiscal 2014 to 6,830 in fiscal 2024. However, rescue organizations are now facing significant challenges such as medical cost burdens.

According to the 'PETOKOTO OMUSUBI Rescue Dog/Cat White Paper 2026,' 76% of rescue organizations stated that challenges have not decreased, with 'medical expense burden' being the most critical issue. Since its inception in 2016, OMUSUBI has grown into a leading matching service with over 300 participating organizations nationwide and has facilitated over 3,000 adoptions.

Key aspects of the renewal include: [1] Enhanced Donation/Support Flows: New functionality allowing direct donations and supplies to organizations. [2] Improved Matching Accuracy: Algorithm upgrades enabling precise matching based on lifestyle and preferences. [3] Volunteer Recruitment: New feature to support organizations facing shortages of foster volunteers. [4] UI and Search Functionality Improvements. [5] Full Integration of Pet Data across Services.

Moving forward, PETOKOTO aims to create a highly transparent and trustworthy ecosystem that prioritizes the welfare of rescue dogs and cats.
