Showa Retro Hot Spring Sento Tamagawa Onsen to Host "Sorghum Sowing Experience" Aimed at Resolving Fallow Land and Revitalizing Tokigawa Town

On May 9, 2026 (Saturday), Tamagawa Onsen, a Showa retro hot spring public bath operated by Onsendojo Co., Ltd. (Tokigawa Town, Hiki District, Saitama Prefecture; Representative Director: Hisaki Yamazaki), will host a "Sorghum Sowing Experience."

The Tokigawa Town Tourism Association is challenging itself to cultivate sorghum with the aim of effectively utilizing the former site of "Tokigawa Iris Garden," creating new tourism resources and local specialties for Tokigawa Town, and resolving the issue of fallow land. Sorghum is a highly nutritious, gluten-free superfood grain from the grass family, easy to manage and harvest.

Tamagawa Onsen supports this initiative and will host the "Sorghum Sowing Experience" with the hope that collaborating on PR will help disseminate the charm of Tokigawa Town. Participants in the sowing experience will receive a complimentary admission ticket to Tamagawa Onsen. The organizers hope that after interacting with nature, participants can refresh themselves in the hot springs.

The sorghum sown this time will be harvested around autumn. The harvested sorghum will be incorporated into the menus of local restaurants and school lunches, utilizing its nutritional components to promote regional health. The sowing experience includes a lunch featuring sorghum. A recipe for "Sorghum Rice" will also be provided as an example of how to prepare sorghum.
