Shibuya Girls International School and Global Village Hawaii Sign Sister School Partnership

Shibuya Girls International School (hereinafter referred to as “our school”), where students learn next-generation skills such as English conversation, video production, and SNS management, is pleased to announce that it has signed a sister school partnership with Global Village Hawaii (GV Hawaii), a language school based in Honolulu, Hawaii.

As part of an initiative to leverage the sister city agreement between Tokyo’s Shibuya Ward and Honolulu, Hawaii, signed in May 2024, both schools will begin offering short-term study abroad and training programs for our school’s students.

Background of the Partnership

In May 2024, Shibuya Ward and Honolulu officially signed a sister city agreement. Shibuya, known as a trendsetting hub, and Honolulu, a crossroads of diverse cultures—while possessing different cultures, the shared value of cherishing diversity connects the two cities.

GV Hawaii wanted to utilize this sister city bond in education and decided to approach our school, based in Shibuya. They strongly resonated with our school’s practice of “learning that doesn’t end within the school,” where students engage in brand projects and marketing plans while still enrolled, leading to this partnership.

They wanted to deliver an authentic international experience in Hawaii to these very students. That desire led to this sister school partnership.

Future Collaboration

With this partnership, GV Hawaii will begin accepting our school’s students for short-term study abroad and training programs.

Hawaii is not just a place to learn English. In class, students meet others from Asia, Europe, and various backgrounds. Outside of class, through beach conversations, local events, cultural exchanges, and volunteer activities, English naturally becomes a “living language.”

There is a term called “Aloha Spirit”—compassion, gratitude, living together. This value, cherished daily by the people of Hawaii, will surely be deeply engraved in the hearts of our students.

Both schools look forward to the Hawaii experience bringing new confidence and perspective to our students, who study while imagining themselves as global players. We intend to nurture this initiative connecting sister cities Shibuya and Honolulu together.

About Global Village Hawaii

Global Village Hawaii (located in the Ala Moana area of Honolulu, Hawaii) is the only school in Hawaii accredited by both IALC (International Association of Language Centres) and ACCET (Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training). The campus is a few minutes’ walk from the Ala Moana Shopping Center, offering open classrooms with ocean views, well-equipped computer facilities, and lounge spaces for students to relax—an environment that makes you want to learn.

Courses range from one week to longer, with options from everyday English conversation to university preparation programs. Through partnerships with local universities such as the University of Hawaii at Manoa and Kapiolani Community College, as well as mainland U.S. universities, many students aim to learn English and transfer to local universities. Students from Switzerland and other European countries also attend, supporting a richly international environment and daily activities that enhance the study abroad experience.
