Flavor Co., Ltd. (Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture / Representative Director Tetsuya Yamamoto), operator of the furniture and interior brand 'Re:CENO', has established a new private qualification, the 'Interior Stylist Certification', which allows individuals to learn interior styling and prove their proficiency.
The certification consists of two levels: Beginner and Advanced. Applications for the entry-level Beginner exam will start on Monday, June 15, 2026.
Proving Basic Room-Making Skills through a Qualification The examination is conducted via a dedicated app and can be taken from home. The 'Interior Stylist Certification' is a private qualification independently defined by the Re:CENO Interior School. It measures and certifies basic interior styling skills, including furniture selection, lighting planning, color coordination, and layout design. 'Interior styling' refers to the technique of arranging not only the placement of furniture but also daily living habits, traffic lines, and comfort. In this certification, participants learn the theory of how to achieve both beauty and comfort while considering the overall balance of the room. Passing this exam serves as proof that one can create beautiful rooms based on reproducible and reliable knowledge, rather than relying solely on personal sense. It can be used to enrich daily life as a hobby, or serve as an entry point for those aiming to pursue a career in interior design.
Learn in Two Stages: 'Beginner' and 'Advanced' The 'Interior Stylist Certification' consists of two stages. It is designed to allow step-by-step learning according to goals, from the basic level to enrich daily life as a hobby, to the practical level for professional work. First, candidates learn the basics of room creation through the Beginner course's examination and certification. After passing, they can choose to either apply these skills directly to their daily lives as a hobby, or proceed to the Advanced level to develop practical skills for professional work.
[Beginner] Enjoying Interiors as a Hobby This is the introductory phase for those who want to enjoy interior design more or learn the basic theories. Focus lies on Re:CENO's unique 'Interior Styling Theories,' systematically teaching the basics of layout, color schemes, furniture selection, and display to organize rooms beautifully. By adding knowledge to intuitive room creation, the range of expression expands, allowing candidates to enjoy interior design more than ever. It helps acquire the ability to realize the concept of 'Making Everyday Homes Beautiful' regardless of personal taste, experience, rental limitations, or small spaces. The Beginner exam measures how well these basics have been mastered. The exam is fully completed online, with an exam fee of 3,300 yen (including tax) and a duration of 50 minutes. Successful candidates will receive a certificate (mailed within 1 to 2 months after passing).
Interior Stylist Certification Exam - Beginner - Exam Fee: 3,300 yen (tax included) - Exam Time: 50 minutes - Format: Online exam (via dedicated app) - Schedule: Anytime - Eligibility: Anyone can take the exam - Certificate: Issued to successful candidates
[Advanced] Professional Application to Work (Scheduled for September 2026) This is the practical stage for those aiming for employment, career changes, or independent practice in the interior industry. This curriculum is designed to turn interior design from a 'hobby' into a 'profession.' Centering on Re:CENO's theory, participants will acquire practical skills that remain useful in the field for a long time, including 3D styling, AI simulation operations, proposal document creation, verbalization, photography, and presentation. Professionals will be able to explain clearly based on theory 'why this furniture' or 'why this layout' is chosen, aiming to become trusted experts utilizing reproducible techniques rather than mere sense.
Background of Development: Aiming for a Society Where Everyone Can Enjoy Interiors Based on Over 10 Years of Research The origin of this certification lies in the challenges of the interior industry that the company has faced for years. While high-quality furniture and home accessories have become easily and affordably accessible to anyone, the knowledge of how to combine and arrange them beautifully as a room—namely, interior styling—is not yet widely spread. Room styling has long relied on self-study and intuition. A major reason for this is that systematic learning methods for interior styling barely existed in Japan.
