Create BioVentures Strengthens Support System for Commercialization of Academia-Originating Drug Discovery Seeds

Create BioVentures, Inc. (Headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Goshi Ozawa; hereinafter "CBV") is pleased to announce that, to strengthen its support system for the commercialization of academia-originating drug discovery seeds, Dr. Kotone Matsuyama, Director of the Clinical Research Center at the National Center for Child Health and Development, will join the company as an advisor, effective July 1, 2026.

Dr. Matsuyama will provide advice on CBV's business development from the perspectives of clinical research, regulatory affairs for development, project management, and commercialization of academia-originating seeds. CBV will further enhance its support functions for nurturing research outcomes into businesses that reach patients.

Background

While many excellent drug discovery seeds are born in Japanese universities and research institutions, there remains a significant gap in the process of evaluating them in the context of drug development and connecting them to commercialization, company formation, partnerships with pharmaceutical companies, fundraising, and the integration of management talent.

From a neutral standpoint, without the capital of specific pharmaceutical companies or its own research facilities, CBV supports the creation and nurturing of drug discovery startups that reach patients by connecting academia-originating drug discovery seeds to commercialization, company formation, partnerships with pharmaceutical companies, connections with VCs/financial institutions, and networks of management talent/experts.

By having Dr. Matsuyama, who has extensive experience in clinical research, regulatory affairs for development, project management, industry-academia collaboration, and human resource development, join as an advisor, CBV will further strengthen its support functions for the commercialization of academia-originating drug discovery seeds.
