Nippon Toyo Co., Ltd. Files Patent Application for Large-Scale, Continuous Operation of Hydrolysis Treatment Equipment

Nippon Toyo Co., Ltd. announces that it has filed a patent application for technology related to the large-scale and continuous operation of hydrolysis treatment equipment for unutilized biomass, organic waste, agricultural residues, and other materials.

Our company has been advancing technology development and commercialization studies concerning the conversion of organic resources into fuel and other valuable materials. In particular, for organic waste and unutilized biomass with high moisture content, which were traditionally difficult to use as fuel, we have explored the possibility of improving their fuel properties, drying characteristics, crushability, and handleability through hydrolysis treatment, to utilize them as coal substitute fuels, boiler fuels, and local energy resources.

This patent application aims to expand processing capacity, improve operational efficiency, stabilize reactor operation, and establish a continuous processing system, which are crucial for transitioning hydrolysis treatment equipment from the demonstration phase to the commercialization phase.

Conventionally, hydrolysis treatment required individual management of processes such as reaction, depressurization, input, and discharge. When processing large quantities, challenges included equipment configuration, operating cycles, thermal energy utilization efficiency, and stable supply of processed materials. To address these issues, our company has been conducting technical studies, including operating methods combining multiple reactors and efficient coordination between processing steps.

This application is not limited to specific raw materials but envisions applicability to spent mushroom substrate, agricultural residues, woody biomass, organic components derived from municipal solid waste, and other unutilized organic resources.

Through this patent application, Nippon Toyo Co., Ltd. aims to strengthen the intellectual property foundation of its hydrolysis treatment technology and promote business development in the fields of waste treatment, resource recycling, renewable fuels, and coal substitute fuels, both domestically and internationally.
