[Web Seminar April 27 & 28, 2026] Jiai-kai - What Has the Regional Hospital That Attracts Doctors Changed? - Special Dialogue
~Practical Implementation of Personnel Strategy and Organizational Reform at Jiai-kai Imamura General Hospital~
The Jiai-kai Public Interest Incorporated Foundation operates 5 hospitals and affiliated facilities based in Kagoshima Prefecture, with over 200 enrolled physicians. The organization embarked on organizational reform triggered by the introduction of cost accounting and the establishment of a personnel system for doctors in 2017.
In this seminar, we will unravel the process of overcoming on-site resistance during the system's introduction, breaking away from a siloed organization, and transforming into an organization where doctors gather, from the perspective of the parties involved.
■ Background
In regional hospitals, recruiting doctors is highly difficult, and a siloed structure centered on medical departments often becomes an issue in organizational management. Under these circumstances, how to build an organization that sustainably attracts doctors is a management issue common to many medical institutions.
At Jiai-kai, a review of the entire organization has been advancing, starting with the introduction of cost accounting and the restructuring of the doctor personnel system in 2017. Although there was initially pushback from the front lines, step-by-step reforms have led to improved communication within medical departments and improvements in various indicators.
■ Highlights of the Dialogue
This seminar will approach the reality of the reform based on interviews with Mr. Naoaki Arishima and Mr. Daisuke Suzuki, who led Jiai-kai's organizational reform on the ground.
Furthermore, Shozo Ota, a Nihon Keiei consultant who has supported the personnel management of doctors and the design and implementation of the 360-degree evaluation system, and Shinya Kawamura, the moderator, will join the discussion on the key points of "reforms that take root in the field" beyond just system design.
The main points of discussion are as follows:
- Elements common to organizations where doctors gather
- The process for establishing personnel system reforms on the front lines
- Improvement of medical department operations and strengthening cross-organizational collaboration
- Practices to improve recruitment strength in regional hospitals
