Drop-off of Lithium-ion Batteries

<Background>

In recent years, fires caused by the inclusion of lithium-ion battery products have occurred frequently at municipal waste disposal facilities, with over 100 fires reported annually since 2022. These incidents have become a serious social problem, causing costs of several hundred million yen and several months of processing suspension for the recovery of waste disposal facilities.

However, due to the high risk of ignition, the disposal options for lithium-ion batteries are limited, leading to situations where large quantities of lithium-ion batteries are stored due to a lack of drop-off points. Saito Eiji Shoten began a collection service for lithium-ion batteries generated by corporations last November. Following numerous requests from individual customers, we have been considering the possibility of allowing households to drop off their lithium-ion batteries at our facilities.

Subsequently, in collaboration with Chiba City, we launched the "Individual Drop-off Service" at two of our recycle centers in Chiba City. This time, through our partnership with Matsudo City, we have released a similar service at our recycle center located in Matsudo City. This marks the third location for our "Individual Drop-off Service for Lithium-ion Batteries."

<Service Features>

Starting July 6, 2026 (Monday), lithium-ion batteries generated by households can be dropped off at Saito Eiji Shoten's Matsudo Recycle Center in Matsudo City. Hand-to-hand delivery is required. Please remove batteries from your home appliances before dropping them off. The collected lithium-ion batteries will be handed over to a recycling business as valuable materials and effectively utilized as resources.
