NÜCHI by WPÜ Launches Space Rental Service: Hourly Rental of a Naha Makishi Space Brimming with Okinawan Craftsmanship and Subtropical Greenery, Suitable for Photography, Live Events, Exhibitions and More [Okinawa, Naha]

Wonder Powered You Co., Ltd. has launched a space rental service at its music bar "NÜCHI by WPÜ" located in Makishi, Naha City, Okinawa. The space can be used for a wide variety of purposes, including location shooting for video and photography, art exhibitions and pop-ups, private dining, DJ events, and live music.

Space Features

The space features a high-ceilinged, one-room structure imbued with the skills of Okinawan artisans. Unlike a studio or typical event space, it possesses a unique atmosphere found only here. Located within walking distance of Kokusai Street and nestled in the alleys of Makishi, it can accommodate up to 100 people (standing) or 67 seats (seated). It is also equipped with a professional sound system featuring British speakers "TANNOY" and an American amplifier "McIntosh" (conditions apply). Provision of NÜCHI signature cocktails and bar food during the space rental period can be arranged separately upon consultation.

About the Space

The theme is "Primitive Modern." Located in the heart of Naha's Makishi district, the space aims to evoke the feeling of stepping into Okinawa's nature. The design was handled by Shuntaro Yamaguchi Architectural Design Office, based in Okinawa. The steel-framed one-room space was intentionally left undivided to make the most of its high ceiling scale.

Okinawan soil, stone, and solid wood are the main materials. The plaster walls are finished using a unique method incorporating local stone, creating shadows and depth reminiscent of a cave. Existing H-beams are left exposed, making the structure itself part of the spatial expression. All plants adorning the interior are from Okinawa. The robust vegetation unique to the subtropical climate creates density and depth, breathing life into the space not as decoration but as the environment itself.

A neon chandelier by WAKU offers a new interpretation of Okinawa's neon culture, and paintings by Masashi Ozawa are arranged to create a resonance between sight and sound.

The seating is varied, including counter, semi-circular sofa, box, lounge, and stand seats. A two-tiered structure with the bar counter side raised 350mm allows for a gradual coexistence between the open zone in front of the DJ booth and the intimate zone on the counter side.

The sound system centers on the TANNOY Westminster in the DJ booth, with sub-speakers placed to minimize sound pressure bias. The space is designed to be operable with only natural light during the day, and at night, a dimming design that illuminates only the tables and counter creates an environment that is not taxing on the body even during long stays.

In Okinawa, "nuchigusui" refers to something that heals the body and mind and gives vitality. At NÜCHI by WPÜ, the aim was for the architecture, materials, light, and sound to all function as "nuchigusui."

About NÜCHI by WPÜ

"NÜCHI" means "life" in the Okinawan language. It opened in October 2025 in Naha's Makishi district as a space to unleash the life energy of Okinawa's land and nature through music, cocktails, and human interaction. The interior, layered with Ryukyu handicrafts and island materials, and records selected by the Tokyo Shinjuku community radio "Room 303 Radio" team create a unique groove every night.
