Runtrip Inc. (headquartered in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Eiichiro Omori), the operator of the running app 'Runtrip,' has partnered with Renaissance Co., Ltd., a sports club operator, to begin offering the 'Renaissance One-Day Trial Ticket' as a reward redeemable with Runtrip Miles starting Monday, June 1, 2026.
By collaborating with Renaissance's well-equipped indoor facilities, Runtrip aims to provide an environment where users can continue running even during intense summer heat.
Record-Breaking Summer Heat in Japan
Japan's summers are becoming increasingly severe each year. Even before the official start of summer, regions across the country are already experiencing heatwave days with temperatures exceeding 35°C. In 2025, recorded as the hottest summer in history, the number of emergency transports due to heatstroke nationwide (from May to September) surpassed 100,000 for the first time since records began (※1).
Temperatures are expected to rise further as the peak summer season approaches, increasing the need for heatstroke prevention and countermeasures. In response, local governments across Japan are designating air-conditioned public facilities as 'Designated Heatstroke Shelters (Cooling Shelters)' under the revised Climate Change Adaptation Act. These facilities are listed on disaster prevention maps and opened during periods when Heatstroke Special Warnings are issued, helping residents protect themselves from extreme heat.
The Need for a Comfortable Running Environment
In recent years, the global running boom has led to a significant increase in the number of runners. Domestically, in fiscal year 2025, the number of marathon finishers aged 29 and under exceeded 60,000 for the first time (※2), indicating growing popularity among younger generations.
However, recent summers have become so hot that even daily life is affected. Engaging in intense physical activity under high temperatures poses serious health risks, including heatstroke. According to the Ministry of the Environment's heatstroke prevention website, guidelines recommend avoiding intense exercise when temperatures exceed 31°C and the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) index exceeds 28, and suspending all physical activity when temperatures exceed 35°C and WBGT exceeds 31 (※3).
These weather conditions are a major reason why many runners discontinue their training routines. As the number of runners grows, there is an increasing demand for comfortable, year-round running environments.
