Announcing the "Shigeaki Saegusa's World of Mobile Suit Z Gundam" concert to be held on Sunday, May 10th. The "Mobile Suit Gundam" series continues to have enthusiastic fans worldwide.

This concert will feature exquisite music from "Mobile Suit Z Gundam" performed by an orchestra, centered around the masterpiece "Symphonic Suite Z Gundam" composed by Shigeaki Saegusa.

40 years since the anime's broadcast.
Those moving melodies will be brought back to life with a live performance at Suntory Hall. Please enjoy this special night where you can experience the world of Gundam through music.

In 1985, I received an offer from Yoshiyuki Tomino, one of Japan's leading animation directors, to compose the music for "Mobile Suit Z Gundam." I subsequently worked with him on "Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ" and the theatrical film "Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack."

I was initially perplexed by the differences in creating music for TV dramas versus anime. This was because there was no video in advance, only scripts and storyboards. After much trial and error, a full-fledged theatrical score, unusual for anime, was completed. The version recorded on this CD is a re-arranged orchestral version of that score.

At the root of the "Gundam" story is "the conflict between victorious and defeated nations," and a universal theme that "what is justice to oneself might be evil to others, and what we consider evil might be justice to someone else." Perhaps this complex and realistic worldview, which cannot be neatly categorized into simple good versus evil, is why it has been supported by so many people and why the series continues to this day.

It is truly gratifying that even 40 years after its broadcast, it continues to be cherished. I express my deepest gratitude. (Shigeaki Saegusa)
