Kawauchi Wine Co., Ltd. (Kawauchi Village, Futaba District, Fukushima Prefecture) and Futaba Lares Co., Ltd. (Tomioka Winery) (Tomioka Town, Futaba District, Fukushima Prefecture) will begin selling special limited edition wines with original design labels by contemporary artist Tatsuo Miyajima starting July 4, 2026. The release of these products coincides with the public demonstration experiment for Tatsuo Miyajima's "Sea of Time - Tohoku" project, to be held at Nihonbashi Mitsui Hall in Tokyo on July 4-5 and July 11-12 of this year. In addition to advance sales at a special booth within the venue, 15% of the sales from these wines (including future continuous sales) will be donated as establishment funds for the "Sea of Time Tohoku Museum" planned for construction in Tomioka Town.

The Concept of "Time" Where Art and Wine Resonate

The collaboration was realized through the resonance between the concept underlying Tatsuo Miyajima's work – "It continues to change," "It connects with everything," and "It lasts forever" – and the process of grapes taking root in the earth and maturing into wine over a long period. The labels feature motifs of digital counters, symbolic of Miyajima's work, expressing the "time" of the wine that continues to live within the bottle.

The 12-Year Journey and Bonds Forged from Scratch

Kawauchi Village (mountains) and Tomioka Town (sea). The history of these two neighboring wineries, which began by cultivating devastated land from scratch and planting slender grapevines, is also a journey that has etched the immense time of reconstruction. This project, where the two companies that have faced difficult times together, hand in hand, intersect, marks a new step in cultural dissemination towards the future of Hamadori.

Wine Born from Art Creates a Future Museum (About the Donation)

Fifteen percent of the sales from the art label wines sold through this project will be donated as construction funds for the "Sea of Time Tohoku Museum." Grapes nurtured by the land of Kawauchi Village and Tomioka Town will support art, creating a cycle to build a new cultural and memorial center in Hamadori.

Special Exhibition and Advance Sales at Nihonbashi Mitsui Hall "Sea of Time - Tohoku" Venue

The "Sea of Time - Tohoku" project aims to commemorate the victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake and pass on memories to the future. This wine will be introduced to the world in the special "space" and "time" of the public demonstration experiment at Nihonbashi Mitsui Hall, a significant milestone. At the special booth within the venue, in addition to advance sales of the art label wine, a photo exhibition will visually convey the transition of the land in Kawauchi and Tomioka into rich vineyards. The founding members of both wineries will also be present on the day to directly share the "time of the earth" behind the art with visitors, along with the lingering artistic impression.

【Comments from Stakeholders】

Tatsuo Miyajima, Contemporary Artist

It has been about a year and a half since we, the "Sea of Time - Tohoku" project, decided to build a museum in Tomioka Town, Fukushima Prefecture, and truly many people have supported this project. As we aim to create "a museum built together with the local community," I express my sincere gratitude to Tomioka Winery and Kawauchi Winery, who were among the first to offer their support, and I will strive to build a museum that meets everyone's expectations.

Hidefumi Endo, Representative Director, Futaba Lares Co., Ltd. (Tomioka Winery)

For us, who are engaged in winemaking in Tomioka Town, our first releases, the Albariño and Sparkling, are special wines filled with gratitude to everyone who has supported us and hope for the town's future. It is a great joy and pride for us that Tatsuo Miyajima, who plans to build a museum in Tomioka Town, has created their labels. Through this collaboration where the blessings of the land, the power of art, and human emotions converge, we will deliver a new story of our region.

Kiyoteru Endo, Representative Director, Kawauchi Wine Co., Ltd.

Tatsuo Miyajima's "Sea of Time - Tohoku" project, prompted by the earthquake and nuclear accident in Tohoku, and the construction of a museum for his permanent exhibition, will become a new base for cultural dissemination towards the future. Kawauchi Village's wine business began 12 years ago with planting wine grape seedlings on devastated land. Winemaking itself is also the creation of a culture that develops over 50 to 100 years. We will strongly support the creation of this museum together with the local community.
