Denki Kogyo Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Koto Ward, Tokyo; President and CEO: Tadafumi Kondo) and CyberCore Inc. (Headquarters: Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture; Representative Director: Yuki Tamaki; hereinafter "our company") announce the commencement of a commissioned survey project utilizing our BehaveEye® (edge-based behavioral analysis solution with ReID) at JR Kitakami Station. The survey, conducted by JR East Morioka Branch, aims to enhance transfer convenience between Shinkansen and conventional railway lines.

Enabling long-term, continuous monitoring of passenger transfer flows using camera-to-camera tracking (ReID)

Traditionally, platform transfer flow surveys within railway stations have relied on manual visual observation by survey personnel, primarily for counting passengers and identifying destinations. However, human-based surveys are often limited to short-term or specific time-period snapshots due to constraints in staffing levels, placement, and working hours. This approach poses challenges in achieving continuous data collection over extended periods and in accurately tracking passenger movement paths across multiple locations.

To address these limitations, this survey employs our BehaveEye® solution equipped with camera-to-camera tracking (ReID—AI-powered re-identification technology). Using cameras installed on platforms and at ticket gates, the system estimates and tracks individuals without identifying personal identities. This enables not only counting people per camera but also determining movement routes—"from where to where"—across different cameras, thereby enabling AI-powered analysis of passenger flows between platforms and ticket gates.

Prior to this survey, a pilot experiment conducted at the same station in January 2025 confirmed the practical usefulness of the collected data. Building on insights gained from that pilot, this survey will further advance long-term and continuous flow monitoring.

All camera footage and related data collected during this survey will be properly managed and disposed of within the scope of the survey's purpose.
