Sonic the Hedgehog x Karakuritamashii Collaboration: Embroidered Sukajan Jackets and T-Shirts Released

Karakuritamashii, a fashion brand renowned for its mastery of traditional Japanese patterns and embroidery, has launched a collaboration collection with SEGA to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the iconic video game series Sonic the Hedgehog.

The collection features two types of sukajan jackets and two types of T-shirts, each available in three colors. These items seamlessly integrate Karakuritamashii’s signature embroidery and traditional Japanese design elements with the vibrant world of Sonic.

The 'SONIC' series includes sukajan jackets and T-shirts inspired by Sonic’s signature color scheme. The sukajan jacket showcases a meticulously embroidered Sonic on the back, while the lining features a bold all-over sublimation print of Green Hill Zone—the iconic stage from the game—in a reversible design. The matching T-shirts feature the same graphics, with an embroidered Sonic logo on the front.

Additionally, the 'SONIC IN THE HOKUSAI' series draws inspiration from Katsushika Hokusai’s famous ukiyo-e series 'Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji.' This unique line imagines Sonic stepping into the world of classical Japanese art, merging Karakuritamashii’s traditional motifs with the character’s dynamic universe. The sukajan jacket features a bold graphic on the back and a sumi-e style Sonic artwork on the interior lining. The T-shirts carry the same artistic theme, creating a fusion of traditional Japanese aesthetics and modern gaming culture.

All six T-shirt variants across both the 'SONIC' and 'SONIC IN THE HOKUSAI' series include an original charm tag shaped like the Chaos Emerald—one of Sonic’s key in-game items—highlighting the attention to detail and immersive world-building.

The visual campaign combines live-action photography with digital graphics, incorporating motion blur and speed effects that evoke Sonic’s signature dash, effectively blending the 35th-anniversary celebration with Karakuritamashii’s artistic expression.

Availability and Details

The collection will be released on June 23 (Tuesday), Sonic’s official birthday, at SEGA STORE TOKYO located in Shibuya PARCO 6F, as well as at select Karakuritamashii retail locations nationwide.

The full lineup will also be available on Karakuritamashii’s official e-commerce site starting at 12:00 PM on the same day.
